How can I match my Vin, Enigne and Transmission Number

I'm trying to find out if the numbers all match on my 87 Pont Firebird. Where can I go to entry my VIN Number and see what my engine and transmission codes where when it was built?

Thanks,

The number on the engine is easy.

If you remove your Alt (on the Front RH side) there is a Hog that sticks out on the BLOCK. There you can find a bunch of numbers, the last 5 will be the sequence number which would match the last digits of your VIN.

What you want to look at is the lower smaller numbers.

Here you will see it as 2HN211943,
IIRC
2 = Pontiac
H = 1987
N = Norwood
2 = Pontiac
11943 - Sequence number

Yes, I totally understand locations of the ID's. My question is how do you find the numbers (not on the vehicle) on record for when the car was purchased.

Are you talking about the RPO sheet??? Its a decal that should be located in your center console. It is a list of 3 digit codes, like CC1 for T-tops, MXO for Automatic Transmission, LG4 or LB8 or LB9 or L98 for the Engine etc.

If this is missing then your SOL, you can contact GM and have them make you a dealer invoice which would include most of the options, but thats $50, and most people are not interested in paying that kind of cash.

Your Vin will indicate the engine that originally came in the car, IE, the 8th digit will have an F, H, S or 8, the F = LB9, H=LG4, S=LB8 and 8 = L98, it will not however determine your original Transmission.

If you have a base firebird your vin will look like this:

1G2FS21??H?2?????
