KITT Knight Rider Replica...

KITT Knight Rider Replica...
A friend of mine in NY has been keeping this car to himself for too long...
I (and many others) think that it's amazing... The best replica I've seen... I myself am building a Knight Rider replica and I know that some people feel that, "your cutting up that car", well, not all of us... Andy's car is stunning in so many ways... He's not a member here yet, but I wanted to post some pics about his car & all the hard work he's done to make it so.... From all the perfect lines to the actual CRT monitors he used (instead of cheating and using an LCD), and the attention to all the little details, it is truly a masterpiece... Take it away, Andy!
Hi everyone!
I havn't really posted any progress on my KITT replica here yet and wanted to share some of my progress with you all.
I've been working on it for just over three years now and have finally started to make some ground. It's an original '83 Trans Am that I have been converting into a season 1 replica. I still have more progress to make like upper console and odds and ends but it's at least to a drivable point now.
Here are some progress pics.

Wow... GREAT attention to detail! I love the old monitors. Thats PERFECT! I dont think I could ever take on a KITT project. Even just from a financial standpoint. But I would have ZERO reservations about driving/owning one if I could.
The best part for me besides the dash is how well you lined up the front end parts. The hood, fenders, headlight doors, black outs...they line up perfect. Most of the time you see some un-even spots. Wanna come line up my front end for me??? haha.
Very awesome! Please sign up on the boards and maybe continue this thread with more progress pictures as you go along!

Re: Kitt Knight Rider Replica...
You are correct about how it all lines up... Andy is a mechanic, but he also bought some high quality parts... There are a few vendors who's fiberglass doesn't line up... But Andy (and the vendors he chose) did a great job... I have the same front bumper as he, but I'm doing a 3/4th season dash instead....
Here is a pic of the same exact dash I have (but this is someon elses dash / car)...
That "bar" below the nose in some of the end pics is a replica of the tow bar used to tow the car in some of the scenes... it is removeable...

Re: Kitt Knight Rider Replica...
that is actually what they would attach the car to a pull vehicle for those upclose through the windshield shots you see, like a front tow bar

Re: Kitt Knight Rider Replica...

Hi everyone!
Raf, thank you for posting up the pics for me and thank you to everyone for all the really great compliments!
As far as the fog light mounting, I used an impact bar of a '90 Firebird I had which is the "no holes" bar. I mounted the lights directly to the bar.
The bar underneath is a replica of the towbar used during filming. I was up in the air about using it or not because it wasn't always used but it was seen quite often. I took it back off but then it looked kind of naked without it. so now it's back on.
I live in upsate NY, Glens Falls area.
Hope I didn't miss anybodys questions.
Thank you again everyone!

May I ask who made that nose?
Also what kind of fog lights did you go with?

Re: Kitt Knight Rider Replica...
The front nose is made by a good friend of mine in GA. This is his website...http://www.knightdesigns.com/ Rafael has the same bumper.
The foglights are Eagle Eye slimlines.

Re: Kitt Knight Rider Replica...
They actually don't make these TV's anymore. I had to do a lot of researching and hunting around to find them. The original prop car used black and white TV's. I used the original frames from the same actual B&W TV's that were used in the prop car but had to find TV's with color tubes that had the correct "white" when off and the correct curve to the face.
Not an easy task as not many companies didn't make mini color TV's with curved faces.

Re: Kitt Knight Rider Replica...
Wow. Typically I find tons of things wrong or inaccurate with each one I see. The only thing I can see that's a bit off is the "Knight Industries Two Thousand" printed in white on the steering wheel. I do not believe any version of KITT in the show had that. Still, the dash is the best looking Season 1/2 dash I've seen yet and the front bumper cover is near perfect. The tow bar / whatever that thing is protrusion is there, and the turn signal covers are more or less correct. They weren't really see through in the show, but when not lit you can't tell and in this case it gives the correct look while remaining street legal.
Very nice work. Can we get pictures of the back half of the car and interior?

The Knight Industries Two Thousand on the wheel is from the Pilot episode
I did a little mix of what I liked about the Pilot car with the 1st season KITT. The first season KITT also had the see through turn signal blackouts but was dropped in season 2 and season 3 but the indents were still there.
I should have some more pics to share soon.

Re: Kitt Knight Rider Replica...
That´s an awesome build.
Only in one respect not quite true to the original.
In the original the turn signal covers never lined up properly. In yours they fit perfectly.

Re: Kitt Knight Rider Replica...
Yeah, that was just always one of my pet peeves about the prop car. I tried to build the car the way it was intented to be built, while trying to maintain a certain level of accuracy.

About the season 1 bumper... yes, very nice, I agree.... I've seen some that look like a swollen toe that was stubbed in the night darkness...
Anyway, bumper is from
