How did you happen to run the lower heater hose? I was thinking about using the stock metal pipe but it seems my headers will hit it.

Are you running speed density or MAF? I have MAF and want to have the same type of air intake you have.

I just went to the parts store and got some heater hose and ran my own. I didn't use the factory metal hose.

Mine is speed density. The big round piece coming off of the TPI air box is a thick rubber 3 inch connector for stuff like PVC pipe. The top air intake box is off of a V6 Camaro. I took my Intake Air Temperature sensor and extended the wires 4 to 5 inches so it would reach the box. The TPI box doesn't have a provision in it for the sensor but the V6 box had the sensor in the air box. I took the V6 sensor out and put some silicone around the end of the Lt1 IAT and stuck it in the hole and let the silicone dry. It worked perfect. You can see the connector in the box if you look closely in the second picture.

Wow, I have been on hear reading and asking questions and it feels good to have mine done and be able to answer questions for other people.

LT1powered89 or anyone else with the LT1/700R4 setup -

How are you routing the 93 tv cable? I have a new found problem...when i adjust the tv cable, it goes past all of the clicks way before it hits full throttle, causing shifting to be weird. I just have my tv cable hooked up to the 700r4 in back and hooked up to the throttle body bracket, and it just kind of freely there inbetween those two.

LT1powered89 -
Question about your setup: what 700r4 are you using? The thirdgen 700r4 or the 93 700r4?

I'm having alternator trouble, how do you have your connector for it wired? Does the brown wire on the connector get 12v when the key is in run only?

The red alternator wire goes to the LT1 C220 connector, slot A. At C220-A, under the dash, i wired it to the thirdgen bulkhead C100-F8 i think? Its the brown/white(maybe brown) wire, same wire that goes to the alternator in the thirdgen setup. Then, i took the LT1 alternator connector apart with a very small flathead screwdriver and took the wire and prong out of the connector. I moved the wire and prong over one position(dont remember which way), put the connector back together, pluged it in and it worked.

The other way to go is to cut off the LT1 alternator connector(and throw it away) and splice in the LT1 alternator wire to the brown wire on the thirdgen alternator connector, then plug in the thirdgen alt connector to the alternator. However, my thirdgen alternator connector didn't plug into the LT1 alternator, so this wasn't an option for me.

Both of these above solutions do the exact same thing, just splices are in different spots.

I am using the 93 700R4. When I did my swap, I didn't mess with the tv cable. I just unhooked it when I took the trans off of the motor and hooked it back up when I put it back together before the motor whent in the car. Mine shifts weird when it's cold but I have to check the trans fluid because I think that's causing the weird shifting. After I drive it for awhile, it shifts perfect.

Good looking setup, puts down pretty decent numbers?
I see in your sig that you have four inch pipes, where could I find a few pics of that?

Again, nice swap

Thanks,

It is the mufflex performance 4 inch exhaust. It was used and I did some trading for it. I painted it black because it was kinda old and rusty lookin. To make a long story short, I was told the exhaust was for a third gen but found out after some custom work that it was for a 4th gen. The 4 inch sounds awesome. I have a few buddy's with 4th gen LT1 cars and they all want to get the 4 inch exhaust.

Which heddmen headers did you use? I wanto run the regular 82-92 camaro full length heddmen headers on my car. But I've heard that they will not give clearance for the d-ports on the lt1 heads?

I ran the hedman d-port shorties on mine. They didn't have any AIR or O2 bungs, however I'm not running any smog so I drilled for the O2 bungs and welded them in, worked like a charm.

I did the same as Klortho but my O2 sensors are in the Y pipe. The D-port headers I got from Hedman are made to clear angle plug heads.

Some info to pass along about the bower's a/c relocation bracket since i see you're using it too. I'm using 89 V6 lines (was using ones from a 92 v6 but found out they were bad) and removed the black plastic separator piece close to the ends and then bent the lines slightly by hand for them to fit. I had the line bolted on the condensor and noticed it was spitting a/c oil or something all over my d. side valve cover and intake manifold. Kind of ticked b/c it was removing the paint on them. Oh well, only spray paint. I put some o-rings on it and it solved the problem. I haven't had the a/c recharged yet though. Just mentioning this b/c i dont think the 4th gen setup or 3rd gen setup used o-rings on the condensors. Mine didn't have any anyway. It makes it a little bit tricky to get the lines on with o-rings but can be done.

The car went an 8.89 at 79mph in the 1/8 mile with the factory 2.73 gear gimp leg rear end on 17 inch tires. I'm gonna try and see if I can get any better before the new rear end goes in. I'm takin it to test n tune today.

Did you have to modify anything like the frame, k-member, or a-arms to make the engine fit? I'm wanting to do it now since I found a complete but dissasembled lt1 engine for 300 bucks.

If you want a/c then u have to notch the crossmember a little, if you don't, then no.

You DON'T have to notch the crossmember, all you need is a hammer to make an indention in it where the A/C compressor will hit.

Notching is actually cutting and welding on the crossmember.

Swap is easy, 8-10 wires to splice, the biggest thing was where to put the PCM.

I made my own fuel lines. I took the original fuel line and used clamps to make my own. The clamps are a little higher quality than the regular ones that you see and I haven't had a problem yet.

From an educational standpoint I learned a ton from doing the swap. It also gave me something to do on weekends and during this winter to keep me out of trouble. I'll let you know how much better the engine is when all the snow melts, I'm too chicken to take it out in the snow and ice now that I've put all this money into it.

wow 8-89 is better then my 1/8th mile time. but then again with no traction it should have been better. but anyways nice you sould see 13's for sure even with the 373's

let just say for the money you spend on the swap it is well worth it. i went from high 14's in my stockish 305 tbi to mid 13's spinning tires in 1st and 2nd. in my eyes well worth it

My final cost was $1600 for the car I bought with the LT1 and $2200 for parts to put it in. It seems like alot but I'm sure it can be done cheaper. I have alot of new parts and many trips to the parts store buying parts instead of rigging things.

My car only made one 9.00 pass and spun on the other three passes I made. I'm done testing it until the new rear end goes in

Hello. I am currently in the middle of this swap and have just a few questions for you. First of all, where did you mount your computer? And what exactly did you do to mount it there? Second, just how many wires must be wired and which ones do you have to splice? Where are they located on the harness and on my car? I have an idea about the wiring but I just want to check and make sure. You did'nt by chance make a color code for it did you? That would be nice. Please let me know ASAP, Im going to try and finish it tommorow.

I used a painless wiring kit on my swap.

On the ECU, I went to the parts store and got a strap and drilled one hole and used a factory drilled hole to secure it.

Click the link below for the pic of the ECU mounted.

Did you use your stock radiator? If so, how did you hook everything up? Everything would work except for the 1 inch nipple under the radiator cap. Im assuming that it is the return for the heater. Tell me how you did it.

I used the 93 model radiator and dual fans for my swap so all the hoses and lines for the LT1 worked. I had to modify the transmission lines a little but they work.

Well I'm back. Some of you know I'm doing the exact same swap as LT1powered89, but I'm trying to finish college and dont have any time to work on it until afterwards. When it comes to wiring I am almost clueless and I had someone helping me, but they are gone, so I was wondering if anyone could lend a helping hand that is close to the chattanooga, tn area. I'm free any date after May 7. If anyone feels the urge to help that would be awesome. It's a 92 camaro that had a 305tbi/700r4, built an LT1 from the block up, 93 computer, 93 painless harness, and sitll using the 700r4 tranny. Pretty much everything else is done except for finishing up the wiring.

LT1 Swap

Hey man, I have a 91 RS, that I am swapping out the 305 TBI, to an LT1. I have planned this project for about a year. I have a 9C1, and I have installed PaceSetter Headers. I just dropped in the engine and the Headers are rubbing on the cross member. It's very close, but its a little too tight for my liking, any suggestions??????Thanks for anyones help.
