6.0L Vortec Lq4

I might be able to get a LQ4 6.0L Vortec motor out of a chevy truck 1999-2004. will it bolt up to a 1991 700r4?
Will it be worth the hassle of swapping the motors and getting all the computerized **** hooked up? (my motor right now is carburated). Or should i just jack the heads off of them?
stock hp rating is 300HP with like 360 ft lbs.
if i got the heads, the required edelbrock RPM intake manifold, and headers, i think i could push 320HP and 350TQ or so. what do you guys think?

Transmission: 4L60E/4L80E

The LQ4 is an LSx Gen III type engine. The heads won't fit a Gen I block. Why they kept using the Vortec name when the engine was completely redesigned is beyond me.

If you do such a swap, carb is, in my personal opinion, a complete bastardization of the engine. But, that's just my opinion (backed up by the fact that it would cost more to make it run with a carb than it would with proper FI).

Moving to the proper forum.

Oh, and read the LSx swap sticky in the top section of this forum.

Re: 6.0L Vortec Lq4

Try to get an '01-up engine. There were several hard-to-see improvements.

Re: 6.0L Vortec Lq4

I know of a 6.0 car here in Pensacola that has a stock bottom end, a decent cam with some mild head work that runs 6.50's on a mild tune with a 100 shot of spray. I do believe that's DEEP in the 10 second range you're seeking. His runs through a th350 and a 9" as well. Mine is right behind him now too. The LS is going in this week. And as far as a carb being a "bastardization", TJ's car knocks down 13mpg or so with a 4.33 gear on drag radials, drives to and from the track and is a great street car. I can only HOPE my hotrod is a good as his. Nothing wrong with a carbed LSx motor at all.

Re: 6.0L Vortec Lq4

Get an 01+ LQ4 as it will have the aluminum heads.

The block will fit to your trans, but you need to run a specific flexplate, crank spacer and longer bolts.

Check out this link for parts.

That info was for a 4l60e/65/e/70e, but will also work for your 700r4.
