LT1 swap and 700r4 transmission
I am doing a LT1 engine swap from a 1993 corvette into a 1983 trans am. Any pointers. Can I use my original 700r4 transmission and what do I need. Can't use the transmission from motor because of mounting. about done with suspension build and getting ready to install motor. Thanks in advance for any help.

If the vette still has a TV cable for its transmission then you shouldn't need anything to control an electronic transmission.

Re: LT1 swap and 700r4 transmission
Should be able to swap your F-Body tailshaft housing onto the Vette trans
The Vette case should have tapped bolt holes underneath for the trans mount
IIRC '94 was first year for 4L60E in Vettes

I will look at the vette transmission again but i didn't see them. I need the mount right in front of the tailshaft. That would be great because the engine and transmission only had 30,000 miles on both. engine and trans are from the same car.

The later trans did ( my '90 T700 Vette trans does ).
Maybe you will be lucky

Checked out and there isn't any spots for holes under the transmission. Still trying to figure out what transmission I need or can use.

If you are running a 93 LT1 and it has provisions for a TV cable run your stock 700r4. It'll bolt up just fine. Its one less thing you have to swap.
Make sure you get the Throttle cable bracket that bolts to the intake. GM no longer makes the 93 bracket with TV cable provisions.

Re: LT1 swap and 700r4 transmission
I also saw on the corvette transmission on the driver's side I have an electrical port that has a wire that goes to the LT1 and I think it was a 5 prong and on the 1983 700r4 the port is a 3 or 4 wire. Is this my torque converter lock up and can i change the electrical port from the corvette to the other and how do you do it.

Re: LT1 swap and 700r4 transmission
I found a transmission out of a 1995 Z28. I have not seen it but that is a 4l60 right. With my Lt1 setup would this be a better option and work when my motor originally had a 700r4 in the corvette. Any thing else I would need.

There are differences in the electronic controls on 94-97 4L60Es that make swapping them nowhere as easy as a simple R&R.
To put a ’94 4L60E into a ’95 car: Direct bolt-in; no mechanical or electrical changes required. The PCM must be reprogrammed with ’94 transmission base code to avoid setting a silent code (Check Engine Light (CEL) does not illuminate, but code stored in memory). Trans will operate normally without reprogramming. EDIT 10/20/07 - The silent code (code 83) may inhibit TCC lockup, but I have not verified this. Three potential fixes (any one will work); 1. reprogram PCM so it doesn't look for the PWM solenoid, 2. swap the '95-96 harness into the car ALONG WITH the PWM solenoid connected but leave the solenoid in the pan, 3. wire up a manual TCC lock switch by which you can lock the converter. END EDIT.
To put a ’94 4L60E into a ’96 car: The ’96 tailshaft housing and VSS must be installed on the ’94 4L60E before the trans can be bolted into the car. No other mechanical or electrical mods necessary. To put a ’95 4L60E into a ’96 car: The ’96 tailshaft housing and VSS must be installed on the ’94 4L60E before the trans can be bolted into the car. Technically, the 3-2 downshift solenoid should be swapped also, but experience shows that it is not required.
To put a ’95 4L60E into a ’94 car: No mechanical mods required. Mod A must be performed. The trans will operate normally without Mod A but TCC lockup will not work, so highway and cruising gas mileage will suffer and more heat will be produced in the transmission.

Mod A (method 1):
An additional wire must be run from the PCM pin TBD to pin TBD on the trans harness for the TCC to work. Also, the PCM must be reprogrammed with ’95 transmission base code.
Mod A (method 2):
Swap the ’94 internal harness into '95-’96 transmission, leave PWM solenoid unplugged but installed. On the valve directly to the right of the PWM solenoid – push that valve all the way towards the outside of the valvebody , push it against the side of the valvebody and stake it into place. That’ll lock down your PWM function and it’ll function like a regular lockup. No PCM reprogramming required. Now with pics!

Re: LT1 swap and 700r4 transmission
I agree with these guys, you would be so much happier just swapping in a 700R4 and leaving it alone rather than messing with the 4L60E and having a headache.

Re: LT1 swap and 700r4 transmission
All right I will stay with the 700r4 and see if I can switch that electrical port on the drivers side from the corvette 700r4 to the firebird 700r4 that I have. I have three 700r4 anyways sitting here. Any tips on switching that electrical port. Does it just pry out or is there something under or how does it come out?

Re: LT1 swap and 700r4 transmission
I ran a 93 LT1 with my stock 90 700-r4 for many years. The only difference is the 93 had a 5 pin connector and the earlier style uses a 4 pin(only 3 are used). Mine works great and it still has lockup and works just as it should. When I pulled the motor out and put it in my dads car we went with a Performabuilt level 2 and it works awesome as well.

Re: LT1 swap and 700r4 transmission
so did you use the 5 pin connector so it matched the motor or how did you get around the different pin. Thanks for everyones help. I hate messing with transmissions because that is the part I know the least about. I usually don't mess with them and leave tranny's

Re: LT1 swap and 700r4 transmission
I used the stock 1990 4 Pin connector with my swap and wired into the computer and brake switch to unlock the convertor.

Re: LT1 swap and 700r4 transmission
Does any one have a wiring diagram for the lock up electrical port on a 1993 corvette transmission? I got a setup motor and tranny out of a 1993 corvette. My original 700r4 is a 4 pin (only uses 3) and the wiring harness off the engine is a 5 pin. I need to know if I can delete one wire or how to get around it.
