My 1989 Camaro RS

This is my first third gen. I bought it like the first week of December 2010 for only a thousand bucks. It runs perfectly. All I had to do was change the oil and get new tires for it to be completely drivable. As far as I can tell everything on it is pretty much stock except the exhaust and possibly the wheels. I plan on doing the interior first, then new hood maybe, paint. Thinking of going back to its original color of white. Anywho, I don't have many pics right now but I'll take more when I get the time.

Looks like you have a good solid foundation to start with. Does it have a V6 or V8?

V8, the 305 TBI. Which I'm satisfied with. Enough takeoff and power for me for now and decent gas mileage.

The center caps are flat with a gold Chevy bowtie on it. Not really sure what the wheels are off of.

Those wheel caps suggest being off an S10. I think the 91-92 Z28 wheels came with they're own cap that has Chevrolet on them. Looks like a solid platform. More shots of the interior? Engine?

I like them. I think if you polished the wheels as shiny as the caps, it would look stunning

Nice find! That car looks clean! I think white would be killer with those wheels polished! I love my little 305 T.B.I. She isn't the fastest, but with the right exhaust combo these cars sound killer! Enjoy!

Re: My 1989 Camaro RS

Excuse the mess. Headliner is out right now and I have the speakers out. Hopefully gonna replace them. The original speakers were still in it.

Rear seat is faded a bit.

Someone who owned the car before straight wired the fan, so it's on all the time as soon as I turn the key.

Re: My 1989 Camaro RS

Those are stock 91-92 camaro rims with different center caps. I use chevy venture center caps before, they are plain caps with no markings. It was an easy cheap mod. Car looks like a good project, good luck with her.

Redid my headliner and attempted the dashpad yesterday. The dashpad didn't come out as well as I would have liked but it looks better than it did.

Well, I was wanting to do the Open air cleaner mod and put a Throttle Body spacer in it. Sure I wont have enough room under the hood for all that. I was thinking just a 2" Sunoco Cowl hood maybe. but, that'll be later on IF I even do it.

Ouch on the dashpad recover! You may just want to replace that! Ive never seen one covered in vinyl that looked good.

1A has a dashpad cap selling for about $130 with free shipping you might want to consider..

Went and got a new used hood last Friday morning. Not in new condition but not bad I don't think for only a hundred bucks.

Re: My 1989 Camaro RS

I have a question about my Daytona hood. I need my car to be a dd and I'm afraid water will get in the engine bay and get on something that doesn't need to be wet, mainly distributor and stuff, through the vents on the side of the scoop and at the rear of the hood near the firewall. What can I do to make sure that not much water gets in the bay?

Some people have made little channels that go under the holes and then direct the water off to the sides of the engine. Car is looking pretty sweet right now! I wouldn't go with the dash cap, I saw one that was on this camaro at the yard the other day that looked about two or three years old and it was all warped and wavy. If you want to get rid of the wheels I'd be happy to take 'em!

Finally had the chance to change my oil again and spark plugs for the first time. Also got to test out some ramps I built. Does it take anyone else a good while to change the plugs and wires?

Re: My 1989 Camaro RS

Well, been a while and I haven't done a whole lot to the car. I spray painted the hood black for now just so it matches. Hopefully gonna get the whole car painted within the next 6 months. Also got an open air cleaner finally. Here's a pic of the car as of right now.

I also got some plexi-glass type of stuff to put on the sides of the hood where the vents are. Can still see in it but no water or anything can get in obviously.

@Apolo I'm not too sure on the size really but I think 215/65/15 maybe? I'll double check on my break.

@KamikazeIroccy I somewhat got the water thing fixed. I just put some plexi-glass on the inside of the hood over the vents on the side. I'll take some pictures of it on my break also.

Gonna get it painted the original white with black stripes going up the sides of the hood. Get the hood louvers painted black.

That would look cool, but I think black with the red louvers on the hood with the red interior is the best color scheme for that car. Just my opinion. Do what looks best to you.

Yeah I like it too but with the engine bay is white I just figured it'd be easier to go white. If I had the money to get the motor rebuilt or money for a swap then I would get it painted black while the engine was out so that the engine bay would match. But, I don't have the money for it.

Re: My 1989 Camaro RS

Keep your eyes open at the wrecking yards for the sunshade/privacy cover and the trunk lid.(I think that's what they are called) I picked mine up real cheep at pic-n-pull and even though the rear hatch is close to limo tint it still helps with keeping things covered .Your car is coming along nicely by the way.

And a few pictures of the plexi-glass type of stuff I put over the vents on each side of the hood.

Re: My 1989 Camaro RS

I got a new set of lights Monday and finally got them completely installed today. I think they look really good and they're a huge improvement over the stock headlights and bumper, side marker lights. Here's a pic.

There's the link to what I bought. They also have a set with smoked bumper and side markers. And a non-halo version of the set.

Re: My 1989 Camaro RS

Long time no update on my car. I ordered new exhaust for it at the end of last week and am getting it put on in the next few days. I got Hedman headers part #: 68470, the true dual dynomax part #:89009, and a thrush dual in dual out muffler. But I'm thinking of getting two glasspacks instead so it will actually be true duals.

Also since my last update I have lost a hood louver going down the highway and had to ordered some used ones off eBay. I've also had to bypass my VATS system because of the relay behind the drivers side kick panel went out. So I just went ahead and put a switch in for that and some diodes on the wires coming from the ignition switch.

Anywho, here's some pics of the Exhaust when i got it Friday and a newer pic of the camaro.

Post a video of the exhaust when it's done! I'm looking to put headers on my car eventually too. Car looks great, you're doing a great job.
