Hey guys, i am just trying to figure out what size MT ET Drags i should put on my car, its a 91 Camaro and the wheel size will be 15"s and probably mounted on Telstars. I dont what the tire sticking way out of the wheel well and i was think how does a 28x10.5 look on a camaro? Thanks in advance

A 10.5" slick might be a little wide to install without some modifications. A 10.5 DOT tire will fit though but only has a tread width of about 9".

It's going to depend on exactly what rims you use. I don't know how well a 28x10.5 slick will fit on a stock rim. Minimum rim width should be 8" and 10" would be better. How far it sticks out depends on the rim backspace. Most common for third gens is a 10" wide rin with 5.5" backspace.

Depending how well it's goin to fit on you car, clearance issues are normally on the inside. Buy and install the tires and rims. Then if anything needs to be modified for clearance, you can see exactly what needs to be done. The 28" tall tire shouldn't cause any problems. It's just the width. The biggest problem will be the bump stops. They can easily be cut off and sectioned over if the tire comes to close to them.

A 28x9 slick should fit with no problems at all and will fit on factory rims.

i was going to mount them on Telstars but it is just a drag race wheel(pull up to the dragstrip and change wheels kind of thing). Any pics of a 10.5 tire and 10" wheel on a camaro i can see thanks so much

Unless you have 4.10 gears I dont think you want 28" tires. You would be better with 26" tires.

I'm running 15x8 with 4.5in backspacing on the rear. Tires are 27x10.5 ET Streets. They tuck in very nice, this pic should give you an idea of how it looks.

Thanks those look great and did you have to do any kind of clearancing for the rear tires to fit?

Remember what I mentioned in my above post. A slick and DOT tire are not the same. ET Streets are a DOT tire.

DOT tire width is measured across the section of the tire. A 10.5" tire usually only has about 9" of tread.

A slick width is measured across the tread. A 10.5" slick is usually between 11-12" wide across the section.

The 27x10.5 ET Streets should fit with no fender modifications.

I was runnning a 28" tire and ran 11.86 with 3.73 gears.

i agree with stephen 28" and 3.73s are a rough combo unless you have a real strong motor, but despite this i have went 11.58 with this combo and using a th350. i do believe it will go faster with a lil tune. to make the most of your car you would theoretically(sp) need a steeper gear. aaron

Yes they fit very well, no modifications to the inner fender well. Depending on what classes you want to race in you might want to consider a dot tire...I like using the dot tires to keep my options more open as to what classes I can run in.

i didnt relize a ET street and ET drag where different sizes thanks, and is there really a difference in traction in a ET street and an ET drag

Not really. They're made from roughly the same compound. The ET drag is a bit softer. The new ET drag and ET street radial tires are softer than the old ET street tires but still not as soft as the ET drag. The ET Street just receives a DOT rating because of the thin grooves in the tread.

That doesn't mean the tires should be driven on the street. The rubber is so soft that on a daily driver, the tires could be worn out in less than 4000 miles. The DOT slicks, no matter what brand, were designed for racing classes that demand a DOT tire. They were never intended for street use.

It's better to just buy slicks and mount them on a second set of rims for track use only.

Are you suggesting that the new et street DR’s should be close to as sticky as the old ET streets (I’ve run nitto and BFG DR’s that aren’t nearly as sticky as a dot slick)?

Compound's might be close, but sidewall is all together different and that is where the lack of traction in the radial tire design lacks for less that perfectly tuned chasis's and better than stock hp.

Here's mine with 28x10.5's on 15x9" rims with 5" backspacing. Had to tap on the inside of the finders a little bit.

28x10.50" ET Drags on 15x8" rims with 5.5" Backspacing. Had to beat the crap outta my wheel wells and grind down the lower control arm mount. My current 27x10.50 Hoosier QTP's fit with tons of room everywhere.

i squeezed in some 29x11.5 hoosier slicks on 15x8 wheels with 4.5 backspacing. i had to beat in the inside fender wells a touch, but they look nice. they are on centerline indy style wheels, looks nice.
