Re: racecraft 2" drop spindles

just a quick question; do drop spindles (or perhaps drop springs) affect the suspension geometry on our cars?

Ed Miller has a pair and will be posting some information soon. We have sent out 23 pairs so far, so I am sure somebody will be getting some feed back up on the boards.

Thanks, Mark

Re: racecraft 2" drop spindles

I dont know how much the tooling would cost to change, but is there any chance you guys would consider making a set for guys who want to swap to rack & pinion steering ?

The main drawback for everyone considering a rack setup is that you lose a decent bit of max steering angle, making parking, and U turns a pain. A set of spindles with the steering arm shortened would take care of this issue.

Re: racecraft 2" drop spindles

your going to hate me for this entirely n00b question, but I just want to make sure of this before I pick up a set; that these will also work on a GTA as well as traditional camaro right?

All suspension 82-92 F body (with the exception of the different yearly differences, which usually dont negate interchange) are the same.

Re: racecraft 2" drop spindles

racecraft makes ONE spindle as far as i know.
it has a long arm on it, and also a hole drilled closer to the center, so they will work for eithr steering setups.

Racecraft actually makes 2 spindles, one with the regular lenght arm and one that has a shorten steering arm for rack and pinions, look on their website they have both listed, and I have their shorten version

Re: racecraft 2" drop spindles

Hey does anyone know the difference in the length of the arm for the manaul rack spindle compared to the conventional. I do not have 550 laying around and have a friend that can machine my stock spindle to the lenght i need for free. Even a rough guess would be good to get started. Are we talking 1/2 inch or a couple?

Re: racecraft 2" drop spindles

everything ive read up on:
stock camaro spindle, ball joint to tie rod (center/center is 8")
rack&pinion guys go 5" center to center. ive seen where people have tried adapting a mustang spindle. ive measured an 89gt v8 spindle and it was 5.25" center/center.
im about to be in the process of modding my spindles as well.
need to get around to it. ive got a pile of stuff sitting here.
i would only modify them if you are drag racing.
i would NOT modify the spindle if you take corners, or do any type of autoX.
id like to see some pics of the finished product.
keep me informed.
thanks.

Re: racecraft 2" drop spindles

i think i am just going to go with the racecraft spindles and stop Di#king around. Be safer and a lot easier. as a wise man once said "just throw some money at it and say: GO AWAY..."

Re: racecraft 2" drop spindles

to anyone interested in these that have not purchased them, I have organized a group purchase on these at the following link: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/grou...e-dropped.html

Please subscribe to the thread for updates from Ed Miller (our local TGO brake guru who's reviewing a set now). Once we get word from him, we're gonna start taking orders. Thanks!
