bought a 454 TBI for injectors, dissapointment

Lasy weekend I bought a 454 TBI on ebay. I have been looking for a set of BB injectors for about a month. I saw this unit and bought it thinking I could get a unit for about the same money as a pair of injectors, which I did. I just couldn't find out in time what the injectors were so I took a chance. I figured that they would be at least 75PPH. The unit is off a 94 truck. The injector PN is 17104288, so I did a search and found a couple of other people with the same unit but nobody seems to know what they flow. I did find out that the 94-95 trucks had a FP of 26-32 lbs which would indicate a small injector. Probably about the same as a LO3 injector. so I'm $108 poorer and back where I started. I did take the FPR apart and looked at the spring to verify the high pressure rating and it was one bad mother of a spring. Maybe I'll just crank up the pressure on my 65 PPH injectors and try them when the time comes. Looks like the factory didn't worry about running as much as 32 lbs of pressure.

Well at least you have a 454 TBI out of the deal. Looking for the right injectors for those things is like trying to find the holy grale.

Thats interesting, I didn't know that any TBI injectors ran fuel pressure that high from the factory.

ben it must have changed 93-93 or so. i have same unit i believe new in box. now i had 90 lbs inj from old set up. 26-32 tells me 68 lbs as was suggested by another member here . check this outhttp://198.208.187.182/internet/VehicleCrossReference.jsp
run the part #. maybe the flow is stated or email them? they are delco part search. i dont have part # with me for mine but my unit is 94-95 454 tb truck. i posted part # about a month ago. if i did not have newer 90's i would have run what is in unit (68?) and cranked my FP to max that 85 pump will allow. i think 19 lbs or so. then change BPW as well in prom. who is to say running at higher FP with smaller inj might actually be better? especially at idle/or off idle. dont know. what fuel pump does joker run??

The listings I have on injectors for bigblocks are 80lb/hr or 90 lb/hr. Can you see color markings on the top of the injector? Blue/black is 80 lb/hr and dark red/dark blue is 90 lb/hr.
Hope this helps.

we found a 3rd 454 injector. the 80-90 are older 454. 94-95 is newer 94-95. the part # cannot be reference to flow. the top color is rose colored. this injector is set fuel pressure at 26-32. that delco site may offer a tip. i have not yet investigated it. i have part # at home.

17104288 is a 305 injector. I know I have a set, I have even verified this threw a guy on Ebay who sells injectors, he looked it up for me. Someone bought your TBI unit, kept the BB injectors, put there stock ones in and sold the unit to you. The 17104288's are total crap, I kick them around in my garage for fun, cause thats all there good for.

i purchased a new 454 TB on ebay as well. that number is the one that was in my TB as well. fortunately i have a set of 90's in car already so can swap them into 454 TB. what i find of interest is that 94-95 GM truck runs at 26-32 lbs. it was said a while back those are 68 lbs but cannot find a hit on delco part search for 17104288. if they are 68 lbs it is possible they can meet fuel requirements of the 454 based upon that higher FP.. C1500 are you certain they are 305 injectors? no where can that part # be identified. i thought the 305's have a diff part # and it is well known.

I been through this before,

Those injectors are about 45lb/hr. I know this because to make them run in my truck I had to set the base pulse width (bpw) to like 160. With my 55 lb/hr 350 injectors my bpw was 122. This was back when I only ran 16 psi fuel pressure.

Long story short I had to crank the pulse witdh to get the motor to run normal (monitoring via scanner). Originally I had set the bpw thinking that the injectors in question were 80 lb/hr, the motor would barely start , then die.

TurboCity lists the pink/purple 1994/1995 7.4l injector at 46#/hr. At 30 psi that is about 72#/hr. Which is correct for a BBC.

mine is going in next week weather permitting. ok finally i got the info on this injector. now i have 2 to sell. apparently for reasons unk GM went to higher pressure for 454 engine. fuel amangement possiibly better? that requires a high pressure fuel pump. i think my 85 vette tpi pump puts out 19 lbs b4 the injector and i regulated down to 12lbs. anyone that buys the 94-94 454 TB should be aware of this. lucky for me i am running the 90 lbs currently. they are about $100 each if i recall. i do have a set of used 65 lbs and a xram plenum with (2) 2.00 inch single TB's for sale with above injectors. x ram plenum is square bore bolt pattern. replaces the crossfire manifold.
