Cam question for 350 tbi

Just bought an 88 305 tbi camaro that has a rod knocking. The rod is knocking bad enough that it would probley need a new crank and who knows what else. I want to put and older style 350 that i have in it. I would like to use a set of 58cc 305 heads that I have from a tuneport motor. I also have a modified Tbi intake that came off a blazer so it will bolt up on the older style heads. My question is what cam could i get away with that might make decent power without having to mess with the computer or do any programing. I have the throtle body and distributor from the tbi blazer motor. I dont think that I would need the distributor but the 350 should have larger injecters so I figure I might need it. I am trying to do this as cheap as possible so I dont get side tracked on my actual project car. i would appreciate any thoughts on this.
Thanks, Mike

I would grab a 350 TBI truck/van/suburban ECM, 61# injectors, and knock sensor. A summit K1102, Mellings MTC1, Federal Mogul CS1014R, or Crane 2030 will achieve what you are wanting to do. My first TBI build was a Federal Mogul CS1014R in a 305 with headers, ported 601 heads, and a 350 TBI setup on top. Pulled right around 190 RWHP when I was done with not tuning. Ran fine, but had a slightly erratic idle coasting around town with the A/C on.

so you think I will definetaly need the 350 ecm. I just threw it away in the blazer I junked. Are the 61lb injectors what came in the 350 tbi blazer, I believe it was a 87

You will without a doubt, definately need the 350 ECM and Knock sensor. When I swapped 2.8-3.4 TBI the 3.4 would idle, but fall on its face the second the engine was accelerated. I know its not a direct comparison but it is pretty close as far as cylinder volume change goes. I was running a 350 TBI setup on my 305 before swapping in my 350 so I don't have the results of a 305 ECM, 305 injectors on a 350, but I am sure they would be similar.

I know car craft would have made more power with their 350 TBI truck had they swapped to 350 injectors. It was VERY LEAN with the stock 305 chip running the show.

The 61# injectors would be found in that TBI unit.

The knock sensor is different between the two?

Yep, different part numbers. The sensors are tuned to different frequencies. Knock in a 305 sounds different to the sensor than knock in a 350. It has to do with bore diameter.
