I have a 92 305 TBI..but can i simply switch it to a carburetor and add an intake to it?

IF so what do i need to do?

remove intake, add desired intake. change distributor to HEI. Wire up. run fuel lines. fuel pressure regulator, carburetor, disconnect ecm, sensors, etc. and some other things its been asked before so

why though?

You will need a geometry corrector, and a throttle // TV cable bracket
for which ever carb you use. These parts are carb specific.

Cost for these items depend on carb you use.
Lokar, Holley, Edelbrock, TCI etc... There are a few to choose from.
Call Summit or Jegs tech lines for the parts & specifics if you don't want
to spend a few minutes to search. There are a couple threads that go into
specifics. I'm on my iPhone & can't search the links any faster than you can
with a desk top or lap top or note book thing, or I woul do that for you.
We have a Summit stage 2 intake & Holley 650. PM me your email & I can
MMS you some pics of the Holley parts mounted.

Because we've answered this question a gazillion times already, and we get tired of answering it. But once again ...

You need:

carb ($250 - $500)
intake ($150 - $300)
carb geometry corrector ($20)
HEI Dist ($125 - $200)
Throttle Bracket ($20 - $50)
Return-style fuel pressure regulator ($100)
Method to lock torque converter ($100 - $250)
Misc ($100)

So, as you can see, it's neither a simple process, nor a cheap process (minimum of almost $1000 to simply swap). And, in the end, you cut your fuel mileage in half, and boost your "performance" by ZERO.

Your TBI car's induction is not it's problem, it's problem lies with the fact that:

1) it's a 305
2) restrictive exhaust
3) terrible restrictive heads
4) restrictive intake
5) peanut cam
6) rear gears for mileage (2.73)
7) the entire "system" (ie motor, tranny, rear gears, and programming) was never designed for performance, but was designed for reliability and mileage

Swapping to a carb should be the last thing on your list. Exhaust for a bigger motor should be first thing, rear gears should be second, and so on, ONLY spending money on parts that will swap to another motor (ie 350) later down the road.

car b cars suck in winter, use more fuel, are less reliable, and whats been posted already. i did a custom CAI on my TBI and ive actully squaked the tires on 1-2 shifts now, intake and exaust and rear end upgrade will make it faster and cost less then a swap to carb

fix it as the tbi and save tuning carb, timing, and bad fuel mileage. plus my tbi with a good exhaust engine back and a chip still runs well and doesnt need retuned for cold or hot. plus 24mpg to boot. i wenbt carbed for a while and got tired of it. now i get in and go. thats it. the ecm does all the rest. and i have 11" wide rear tires. and she will spin them. for a very short distance but she will do it.

anytime!!!!!!! i figure im doing good when a single wheel peel will turn both wheels for a short time and kick out to the side. and that is a 3.23 gear.
