Re: EBL and a 4l60E trans

What is done is to run both an EBL ECM and a PCM. The PCM runs the trans while the EBL ECM runs the engine. In place of a PCM can also run an aftermarket 'E' transmission controller.

so you are saying that an ebl flash cannot run a transmission? or can it not run a 4l60e

The EBL will not run any "E" series trans...

If an E automatic is added to a otherwise stock vehicle, need some way to run the transmission. The E automatics, unless a full manual valve body is installed, requires a controller (E being 'electronic').

With your truck that has a E transmission (factory stock), the controller runs both the engine and the transmission. It is known as a powertrain control module (PCM). Odds are it is one of three that are all very similar. The 16197427 PCM being the most popular.

This is for the '92 ('93?) through '95 trucks. In '96 GM went with an under hood VCM (vehicle control module).

If the trans is the 4L80E, the '7060 PCM was used in the early years.

To use an EBL Flash ECM in a truck with an E transmission the stock PCM remains in place. It stays to run the transmission. Another set of ECM harness connectors are added to the stock harness. Power & grounds are spliced to both. Some sensors are shared. All engine control wires get moved to the new connectors.

The EBL Flash ECM is plugged into the newly added connectors to run the engine. While the stock PCM stays to run the E trans. In this case the EBL is transmission dumb, as it won't know which gear the trans is in and so on.

Transmission: 4L60

Re: EBL and a 4l60E trans

I'm leaning toward doing this, but the other way around. I have a 4L60 (not an e-trans) that is slowly on its way out (I think the 383 has something to do with it), so I'm looking into getting a harness and possibly a 7427 (from what I've read so far that is somewhat easier than others to tune far as shift points, etc. are concerned?) ECM to control a 4L60E. If I come across one at the right price I would almost consider a 4L80E but I would probably need a different/modified crossmember and/or a different length driveshaft/yoke (of course all those mean more $$$, trying a budget-oriented swap here). I would probably just pigtail the power/signal wires needed off the original wiring (truck is a '92) and mount the trans controller on the rear cab wall or under the driver seat for ease of wire routing to the trans.

I currently have the PCM 16197427 using Moates Burn 2 chip, and if I add the EBL system would I be able to make transmission setting changes using the Burn 2 chip. If not are there any transmission controllers that are recommended that wont break the bank? Trying to decide manual, or auto with a budget.

Yes, the same as it is now. The '7427 continues to run the transmission so tuning it would be with the Burn2/chips.

All engine control would be with the EBL Flash ECM. This has Flash memory on board and changes to it are made via Tuner Pro, then flashed via the WUD.
