Are iron DART heads that good.

I get bored and surf ebay. Seems every company on there is using iron eagle dart heads on their engine. I'm sure because they are cheap. But some of the dyno numbers they claim to be getting out of them are incredibily high. I have TF G2's that flow way more then this and don't have these numbers.
I'd call BS but they all have positive feedback and dyno numbers. What am I missing? Velocity of something that great.

EX of dyno'd 542HP

Well I am using a set of the 215cc's, and the package makes over 600HP. Your looking at flow numbers of around 285-295 cfm intake. It is really more of selecting the right cam to head configuration that makes it all work. But, theres more to it than that.....

Remember...stock they wont flo those numbers. I think, yeah take a look at this:

http://www.chevyhiperformance.com

Scroll down to the left and find the Cylinder Head flow bench database. The Dart Pro1's are the alloy equal to the Iron Eagle.

253 in / 173 ex @ 0.500" lift
256 in / 176 ex @ 0.600" lift

You can see that they plateau at around.....say 0.520" lift. So with about a 300-500$ port job you can get these numbers up 20+ cfm.

An easy number to get out of these heads is 275-280 intake

I also am in a build up of a 460HP 87 octane 355 cid with a set of TFS 195cc heads.

So you really think they are making 542HP on that engine. If so where can I get one for that price! How could all the crate engine companies charge much more for the same HP and stay in business if you can get this for less.

I am really quite skeptical on the came shaft that they advertise though.....but considering the cid I can see where the torque comes from but the HP from a cam that small !?!! I dunno.......

And Ron, I swear I dont work for Primedia Publishing!!!!!

that motor won't make 540hp with that cam

I doubt it will make 450 without extensively modified heads.

Funny.. the BB (with better heads) at http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1859319235

make less hp and almost as much torque..

When was the last time you saw a 450hp 400 with 882 heads and a mild cam?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1859142615

i think something is a little fishy.

MILD CAM? That thing is a monster. It has lift just under .5 but HIGH duration and tight lobe separation. That is probably an energizer cam and one of the biggest you can get for the street.

probably advertised duration which often don't mean squat

Look at the comp magnum 280 (15yrs old). 480 and 280 duration with 230 at 050 (same lsa)..

When Racing head service (went out of business about 6+ yrs ago), used to build 383s and 400s with sportsmans, they made right at 400hp with that cam. I would not expect the results from this combination to be much higher.

I use Dart Iron Eagles. I use Trick Flow G2s. I've worked on other's cars with both of these heads, too. All on hot street motors- not race engines. Here's my verdict:

The Iron Eagles are the low-buck champ.

The G2s are better heads, though. Better exhaust flow, roughly equivalent intake flow and they drop 50 lbs right off the nose of your car being made of aluminum.

Don't freak over "claimed" HP numbers. Subtract at least 10% right off the top of ANY claimed HP number you read or hear. Then you'll be a LOT closer to reality.

I never had any 305 heads. I'm running l98 iron heads, ported and polished. I'm building a new engine, for a 2nd gen race car. But we're going to the track tomorrow, to see how much the stealth ram, and new tranny helped. I don't know if I'll ever get this GTA to run with the injection. Seems like I'm not having much luck with the chip burnning. It runs good on the street, but once at the track after 30 years, got the fever again. I have a old 81 T/A skeleton in the back yard, decided to make it into a race car. Can't get the GTA too radical, daily driver.

I thought you were going to do your own set of heads but were not confident enough. Thought I gave you the old "rah-rah" speech.
