Cam Lift Calculation
Does anyone know an equation for calculating cam lift? I've got an SLP cam I bought from a guy on a message board and he didn't know exact specs. The cam model is 51006 and it is not on the SLP website. Thanks.

There is no "calculation", per sè, without measuring the minor and major diameters of the cam lobes. Once you know the lobe lift (the difference between the two), you can multiply that by the rocker arm ratio (1.5 for stock rockers) to calculate gross valve lift.

okay. so then measure the base circle, take that (about 1.865 inches) and subtract the lobe (about 1.520 inches) and then multipy by 1.5? Thanks.

That will give you valve lift, to get cam lift don't multiply by 1.5 or 1.6 depending on rocker arm ratio.

Told to me over the phone by SLP:
At .50
intake open 1- btdc
exhaust 50 bbdc
close intake 39 abdc
close exhause 6- atdc
3 degrees advance built into it

SLP hydraulic roller camshafts are designed for 5.0L (305) and 5.7L (350) TPI engines in computer controlled, street driven Camaros, Firebirds, Corvettes and Impala SS. We've put a lot of dyno and road testing into these camshafts to ensure good driveability, acceptable idle and compatibility with all electronic engine controls, including the computer Mass Air Flow sensor. Power gains as high as 30 extra horsepower in a Tuned Port 305 and 35 in a 350 can be achieved, depending on the application. Dyno testing has also shown these cams will substantially improve the performance of 305 and 350 engines equipped with four barrel carburetors. SLP cams work equally well in manual or automatic transmission-equipped cars. 1987-97 TPI engines can reuse the factory lifters. All other applications will need to use Speed-Pro roller lifters (Part #HT5000RA), which are not included.

It's almost identical to a crane 119821 in DD2000, according to my two year old notes.
