HELP! Timing Chain & Cover For ZZ4-350

I am currently installing a ZZ4 350 and am having no luck finding a timing chain & cover. I have purchased from Summit and Lingenfelter, sets that were supposed to have fit this engine and infact they do not. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

GM. I broke my plastic cover trying to put it back on. I took it to the dealer and ordered a new one. The part number is stamped on the inside of the cover.

I would like to purchase a DOUBLE roller timing chain set for this motor. The only one I can seem to find is a SINGLE roller from GM parts. The plastic timing chain cover that comes stock on the ZZ4 does not look like it will clear a DOUBLE roller chain. Is the one you purchased a single roller timing set?

Also, was your car in GM High Tech last month?

Not sure about the fit, but I have heard rumor of the plastic chain covers cracking and leaking oil. I suspect mine may be guilty of this now. Anyone else heard this?

I didn't replace the chain since it didn't have many miles on it. I just crammed the new cam in and went on.

Yes, that was my car in last months GMHTP.

You wanna trade that T-ram for my Super Ram?

When I had my ZZ4 shortblock installed, we re-used my 305's front cover. Don't know why you're having probs.

Ok! Now that I have some time here is the scenario. I started buying parts 4 years ago for a L98 build up. My car came with a 305 and I planned on buying a used L98 to rebuild. I had purchased almost all the parts needed to assemble the motor, and then I changed my plan. After doing the math it didn’t make sense to buy a L98 when all I needed was a short block.

I purchased a ZZ4 350 short block. After receiving my second 350 (the shipping company dropped the first one) I started the assembly process. The timing chain crank sprocket was too big; Summit had sent the wrong part ( thanks Summit). Next up was Lingenfelter they had the correct timing chain. Now my problem is that the cam retainer plate bolt head hits the back of the cam sprocket. The cam is a Crane HR-276 2S12IG hydraulic roller cam. I've confirmed that this chain is the correct one, so is my cam the problem??

I purchased an Edelbrock timing chain cover with the cam 2 years ago. The oil pan gasket is too wide to fit into the channel of the timing chain cover. Edelbrock says that this part is not compatible with a roller cam (Thanks Summit!!)but they could not tell me why. I cannot return the part and I still need a cover so can this be modified to work?

ZBRA

How many miles on that Super Ram?
Let me see what kind of ET's I get out of the T-Ram and then maybe we will talk.

dlp,
I am not a mechanic but I can tell you the problems I had and what I did.
I had my heads, cam and timing chain replaced but I bought all the parts and had the mechanic do the work.

When he put the cam in I told him to just by a timing chain, I just didn't want to be bothered any more. He did and said it didn't fit the cam! I found out that the cam TPIS ZZ9 is a direct replacement cam meaning the head. You see the L98 engines cam head is larger than the usual cams from 1st and 2nd gen camaros.
So if your cam is a direct replacement cam for a L98 87-90 engine then a standard timing chain will not fit it.
I cannot find the CLOYES timing chain in summit but in JEGS page 38 - B, part number 220-9-3145 (True Double roller) Cloyes timing chain for factory roller cam for SB Chevys 87-90.
As for the timing cover plate try TPIS System, also TPIS has the same timing chain for around $89.00. I don't know the part number of hand.
I hope this might have helped you out and if Vader or anyone else could either confirm or shoot down my suspicions I would feel better.
Good Luck
