How do I wire up the engine to start it on the stand?

How do I wire starter, alternator, and distributor to start the engine on the stand?

I wanna do every thing while it's still out...

Thanks.

not 100% sure but i think all you'd need to do is use a jumper cable from a battery to the starter. a wire from the selonoid to the coil. ground it to something. rig up some sort of radiator and hoses. and i believe the main thing would be to keep it from torqueing over on the engine stand. might want to consider fabracating a stand to hold the engine and bolt to the floor.

yeah i would think bolting it to the ground would be best, other wise its easy, dont worry about an alt and just use a switch to jump power from the cables to the starter....

hook up the ignition, and away ya go! just remember coolin is gonna be a situation too

you need a good 12 volt feed to the distributer. run your positive lead from the battery to the large stud on the starter solenoid. you can hook up a momentary switch to the smaller terminal of the solenoid. this will only kick the starter solenoid to drive the engine. many have used a wood handled screwdriver to do this as once the engine is running, there is no use for this connection. make sure you have a good return to the negative post of the battery.

Use a push on connector to the "BAT" terminal on the HEI(the one next to the "TACH" connection.) Use at least 16 gauge wire.
Make sure you use a switch to shut off the ignition, and an oil pressure gauge. Also you will need some kind of fan, a simple home box fan in front of the radiator works well.

I hope you fabricated a wide, low stand out of at least 2x2 0.125" steel which connects to the engine in 4 places or you are using very long wires to start this thing!
