adjustable vacuum advance

adjustable vacuum advance

I just bought a new mallory hei distributor and it says it has an adjustable vacuum advance, How do I adjust it?

The reason I ask this is because my dad said the vacuum advance isn't working properly, he said if you suck on the advance it should hold vacuum, but it isn't, it justsucks right through and doesn't hold. does this mean we have to adjust it?....And could this be causing my car to bogg down at WOT?

Your dad is right, the vacuum advance canister should "hold" vacuum. I would replace the vac adv can. At WOT there should be little to no vac adv, it will all be mechanical. Vacuum adv is for part throttle cruising, milage, and sometimes idle.
