There have been mixed opinions of using cam lube with roller cams. They're fine for flat tappet cams, but what about rollers? Does cam lube gum up the rollers on the lifters, or is it perfectly safe?

you shouldnt use it on the rollers or lobes.

a small amount is fine on the bearing surfaces and distrib gear. just dont go crazy with it....

you'll have to do the "break in" warm up since you used it..... then drain the oil while its warm..

that will get most of it out.

I use straight 30 weight oil, non detergent for assembly. Regular multi-weight oils have detergents in them that attract dirt (that's the detergent's job) which isn't good for an engine sitting with it's guts exposed. I would use break in lube if I didn't plan on firing the engine for a while though since it's thicker and will stay in place until the engine fires. I would only use the assembly lube on things like bearings and bearing surfaces though, and not on a roller cam lobe surface. The roller lifter wheel has it's own internal bearings and the wheel of the roller doesn't need lube to be able to turn the camshaft without damage. On the lifter bore perhaps, but not the lobe surfaces...
