Infl. Rest- what does it mean!?

So I removed teh A/C and smog equipment from the Camaro.

Now when she starts up, I get the Infl. Rest. light flashing at me. When its flashing, the motor runs really rough, but then picks right up when the light goes off.

What does the light mean, and what is the motor doing? Still learning here-

I don't know what all you did to the wiring when you removed that equipment. The light means that something is wrong with the inflatable restraint ( S.I.R.S.) or air bags system

Uh oh lol.

I just un-plugged the wires from their respective units- ill check around the dash, something could have gotten loose.

Is there anything in the engine compartment that could have been disconnected and is causing that?

I don't believe so, the wire is a thick yellow one coming down from the steering column. I would also advise disconnecting the battery while tracking it down for safety and $$$$$ purposes. I would check the airbag connection on the passenger side as well as the driver side.

The air bag light is supposed to flash when you start the car. IF it doesnt stay on then you dont have any problems.

Agreed. If the light goes out, all systems go. The rough running is probably tied to something you removed. My guess would be something in the smog system is to blame. The fact it smooths out when the air bag light goes out, is probably just coincedence.

infl rest = inflatable restraint... fancy name for the air bag.

you only have one.. in the steering wheel. there is no passenger one.

most airbag connectors are a bright yellow.

if you disconnected anything bright yellow, thats it.

do disconnect the battery before reconnecting them. if you set off the airbag, not only is it a explocive that has the potential to kill you if you're too close to it (gee thanks fed gov for mandating explocives in all cars since people are too stupid to buckle up)....

..but also a new airbag is $$$$..

I was reading up in my repair manual, and i did read that its suppose to flash 7 times then go out when the power is turned on. Sort of like a systems check.

Mine does that, but then flashes several times after I start the car. I'll go into the shop in a few min and count the number of times it flashes. It just does it for about 5 seconds then stops. Is it suppose to do it again??

It should do it every time the key hits the "on" position. If you start your car like most do, you go past "on" and into "start" so fast, you don't notice it until you let go of the key. However, if you start it like I do, key to "on", wait for fuel pump to prime, then to start and drop the key, everything from my seatbelt warning to my fuzz buster go through their checks twice.
