Is my power window motor going out???
Today, when I pushed the switch for the passenger side power window to go up, the window went up about 3 inches, then stopped. I turned the car off, and then back on again and pushed the switch, and it went up another inch or so and then stopped. After that, it wouldnt go up. Then just now, i went out and started my car and it went up and down all the way perfectly fine.
Is my power window motor, or switch is going out? What is neccessary to change the motor, or switch?

New ones from GM are about $100.00
I would never install a used one or a rebuilt. Had too many problems with them.
They are a little tricky to do, but easy. I think there is a tech article on this board on how to do it.
We charge $135.00 + parts to do it at my shop.

I would check the switch though, I know I have a bad switch and it does the same thing, well, let me elaborate a little more, if I "play" with the switch I can get the window up I got real good at hitting the switch "just right" though so I can usually get it up w/o a hitch. I assume when it wouldn't go up for you, you played w/ it a a little right? If not, try that, replacing that motor is a B*TCH!!! (Or at least the curses about the &%^$ &*%$^&* 8&%$&*$*^& 976%&(%6 power window motor coming from a friend sure made it sound like it was a PITA
Good luck

Ive just fixed the same problem last fall.
Sounds like your window motor is going bad...rule out a bad switch by just switching the wire/switch connections between both windows...if the problem stays on the same window then the switch is good.
Before you replace the motor, remove the interior door trim and examine the gear/tracks on the window guides for defects.
You do not have to remove the window in order to replace the motor, but I HIGHLY recommend you do so. Everything inside the door is held together with rivets which can be removed using simple tools. The only trick is to be careful when separating the motor from the gear since it is spring loaded. The only problem during installation is deciding whether to use rivets or bolts. I couldn't figure out how to get bolts and nuts in the small spaces required for proper installation. With rivets you cannot buy a rivet gun big enough for the job. I would up getting it riveted at a glass shop for the cost of a 6-pack or beer. Hope this helps
