bad idle, stalling, shuts off
i have a 1986 305 tpi trans am. when i start the car, it idles rough the whole time, sounds like its gonna stall. when i drive it it moves fine until i let off the gas, then it soudns like its gonna stall at stop signs and lights, until it finally does. if i turn a corner hard or brake hard, it shuts off. any ideas? i checked for loose wires to the battery/starter, everything seems fine. the sensor under the tps (plugs into the intake), has a broken pin. would this be the problem?

If that sensor has a broken pin, I would recommend replacing it. However, it sounds like your MAF Sensor. Try unplugging your MAF and see if the car runs any better. If it does, you need to replace the MAF relay.

i unplugged the maf, no difference. i adjusted the tps today, it ran good till i got to a stop sign, gave it full throttle to see what happens, the car shut right off as soon as i pressed the pedal to the floor. could it be the tps sensor?

When you turn hard or brake, the engine shuts off. Does it do it all the time or at certain speeds. It almost sounds like the fuel pump can't keep up.

it does it at random times. it wont happen every time. when i punch it the car goes tho, and sounds fine. its just when it idles down it stalls. does anyone know what the sensor is called under the tps. it plugs into a module on the intake.

That would be your IAC Valve (Idle Air Control Valve). If that has a broken pin, it won't function properly, and your car won't idle correctly. Look into having it replaced.

yeah that would be a major help if the car is in a good state of tune... if by un pluging the MAF and noting happend that would lead me to suspect that your MAF is bad.. and so is your TPS... but looking at the bigg picture... looks to be more of a huge vacum leake..... which would make sense.. rought idle and staling, stalling out at WOT. and take coners would mean way to much air and maybe not enough gas. also check the fuel pressure.. while koer while koeo look up the spec and see how it is. if it is low. 2 thinks good be bad. your FPR or your fuel pump. thier are test you can do to determine which one it is but if you want to know just pm me it's a long prosses to write easy to explane

well i checked some fuses, 3 were blown. replaced them, still stalls. how do i tell if the tps is bad, and would the iac sensor pin being missing cause the car to run rough

forgot to mention, car has a aftermarket intake with a k&n filter attached to the maf, then attached to a hose leading to a paxton supercharger intake that connects to the tpi intake. the car was supercharged up until i bought it, could the person who removed the super charger cut some stuff they werent supposed to?

The IAC is most likely the culprit. I controls your idle. That is when you are having the problems. Get your IAC pigtail fixed and I'll bet you fix your problem.

would like to know if you did in fact fix the idle problem and if it was the iac, having a similar problem myself and i think the iac might be it.

Re: bad idle, stalling, shuts off
get a aldl cable get datamaster OR check your plugs and find out if your running too lean or too rich at idle. if you choose to go without an aldl run the field diagnostic and see what comes up. make sure you wait until 12 comes up 3 times and then a trouble code will come up(this ****ed me up) .
test your TPS with a multimeter if u dont got one there STUPID cheap at radioshack any backyard mechanic should have 1. I didnt find you write this anywhere but did that prom ever work without the blower? maybe the blower tunes it to run a lil richer? If i was you id spend the 90 dollars and use the datamaster free trial.
one last thing does it stall on the way too the stopsign rolling or when your stopped idling at the stopsign.
my guess would be 2 seperate problems causing it to die(something like a VSS) and causing it to idle bad in the first place being more prone to stall (vacume leak, bad chip program, or something else)

HOW TO TEST THE TPS:
im only 18 i know this **** u guys are slackin
-- you connect a multimeter to the center wire and either of the two outside wires. switch the multimeter to resistance and move the tps back and forth and if the number changes up and down smoothly your good. if it jumps u need a new tps.

Re: bad idle, stalling, shuts off
James gould i just found your post and you have to find out if its is getting the park nuetral switch signal. i dont know what it is for 92 but for 89 its N on the underdash connector or B10 on the ecm. u shouldnt be posting your problem on har0xz post. thats annoying start your own post. do the research or buy a new camaro.

I have a 1991 z28 that has a problem after warming up,it starts to shutter and I loose rpms until the engine stalls and does not want to start again.I have replaced parts hoping to correct this issue but still ends up doing the same thing.I cant even take out of driveway for fear of car leaving me stranded.305 TPI stock!
