Well the manufacture says to not to use anything on the roller cam since it s a roller cam... I've heard different over the years .. From what I am led to beleive you need some sort of lube on the bearing section of the cam..

So what should I use. Assembly lube or will some 10W30 work?

Might as well put some on anyway. Not like it's going to hurt anything.

The rollers/lifters should be soaked in oil. That's all they need. The cam journals still need some lube. Use the same breakin lube as the crank mains/rods.

I've always built engines with plenty of 10W30 Engine oil. Never had one fail.

Thin coat of assembly lube on the walls of the lifter bore, soak the lifter in oil as mentioned above, and pop it in. You don't want the assy lube on the roller or cam, you do want it between the lifter body and bore.

when i assembled my engine I used lube both on the camshaft AND on the body of the lifter..

i also used lube on the pushrods and anywhere the rocker arm had friction..

i pre-soaked my lifters in oil, and use an old pushrod to 'prime' them..

my car had no problems firing up and runs fine still

i use lubiplate 105 on the bearings and lifter bores, oil on the lifters and moly lube on the cam lobes.
