Not sure but doesn't it have a two bolt main and cast crank? I'm thinking that the factory recommended redline has to be around 5,250-5,500. My L82 with a forged crank and pistons, and 4 bolt mains red lines at 6,000.

It has 4 bolt main's, and what is the max rpm that this enigne ill go to? what is the max rpm that is safe?

Personally, I'd say be safe and shift at 5000rpm. Really high rpms, like 6500 or 7000, are better left for an engine that has the appropriate accompanying parts, like solid lifters (or equivelent) and very stiff valve springs.

in stock form it's a 5k redline. since it has no power past 4500, i'd say it's not a bad thing. it's built to handle 6k if you were going to put parts on it to turn it that high, but that's not going to happen with the cam and heads that come on it.

Because teh other day I had it to about 5,500 rpm, do Think that I did any damage? at what rpm do the vavles start to float? thanks

How many miles does it have on it? If you don't notice anything different (it could all be in your head) don't stress over it. I had my puny LG4 up to 6000+ rpms once (accident) and nothing bad happend except it didn't become any more powerful. That was 6 months ago, and it runs just dandy.

What did your 350 replace? If you had the LG4 or L69 how much stronger does it run?? Just curious because my Goodwrench 350 goes in on Monday.

I have the same motor and the website that gives the specs of the motor have the redline at 5200 rpm's. Max hp is at 4500rpm and max torgue is at 3500 rpm.

Sorry, max torque is at 3200 rpm's assuming you have the same setup as them, q-jet, cast iron intake, hei distributor and open exhaust.

There is a difference between the "power" redline and the "mechanical" redline. The former means where you should shift because the engine isn't going to make any more power, and the second is the point at which damage occurs.

Sounds like you're looking for the mechanical redline. I doubt 5500 did any damage, valve float would be the first thing to go wrong. If it didn't miss during this event, and it runs okay now, you're probably fine.

I replaced a lg4, The car runs fine, And I did not think I did any damage, i was just wondering for future refrence. The car runs alot strong with this motor then the lg4, It does not runas strong as it did with the summit 350 though.

valve float happens when the valvesprings aren't strong enough to keep the lifter riding solid on the camshaft and they will bounce. usually does no damage. it is possible for the valve to hit the piston. sometimes hydraulic lifters will pump-up and take up the slack when the lifter bounces off of the cam then the valve will not close and the engine will run real bad until the lifters bleed back down.

I have heard that the vavle springs will loose there temper, and then you will be bascially running with no springs.

"Temper" is a process that follows heat treating or cold working, which are done for strength, to reduce the hardness (and strength) slightly but increase the toughness (reduce brittleness) significantly. To "lose temper", the material either has to be; a) heated above the tempering temperature (which would damage other engine parts long before that happened to the valve springs), or b) work hardened by being taken beyond the yield point - since springs are designed to go to coil bind without yield, that isn't likely either.

Things that do happen to springs are "creep" and "fatigue". Creep is due to being constantly loaded over time; it can be quantified by a load test and/or free height measurement, and is why it's a good idea to replace 20-year old valve springs. Fatigue is from repetitive loading below the yield point that causes slow fracture growth, and eventually leads to failure.

The phenomenom people are trying to describe is probably creep. It means, just replace old springs.
