Head casting number 14102193?

I ordered a set of 2.02/1.60 heads for my L98 project motor and specified 14101083 heads.

They sent me 14102193's? Are these an equivalent or did they screw up? I checked the casting number and it says they are 87 - 92 or so 350 head and they do have the correct bolts for my TPI. I am afraid they may be those junk swirl port heads used on the truck motors.

Any ideas?

They are NOT equivalent. They are in fact truck TBI swirl-port heads.

Send them back, and make them supply what you ordered.

Since they sent you the wrong head I would demand that they give you what you ordered. The is no way you should settle for those heads when you asked for L98's.

For what it worth to those that have a set of these heads collecting dust in their garage.

In "zero money" situations these heads can be used. They should never be used without port work though. New light is being shed on this head for low RPM TBI applications. These heads can make decent power and flow decently under 4500 rpm. With the right cam you can maximise what little performance you can muster out of them. This does not mean that they can be used in any serious performance engine, but merely as an semi-performing substitute. Read this thread to see for yourself and the results that one member had not giving up on these heads. Vortecs and TPI heads would be much better choices but if you have a low RPM torque motor, that behaves much like TPI and TBI, you have a chance to get at least something out of them.

Thanks for the info and that thread. I just emailed them to see the response I get. If they dont have a set of 083's I am sending them back on their dime since I found the email that stated they had 083's ready to go.

The 083's came in last Thursday and the others are going back! They were real cool about it. Now it's time to assemble the motor!
