Oil pan gasket problem
I keep buying the wrong oil pan gasket i guess! My block number is 3970010, which according to Mortec could be:
3970010....302.....69....4...Z-28 Camaro
3970010....327.....69....2...Trucks and industrial
3970010....350...69-80...2 or 4
Now i was told by the guy i bought it from that its a 350, which i have no reason to doubt. Its not a 327, cause its a 4 bolt block and according to that chart (mortec), the 327 was a 2 bolt
The gaskets i've been buying from AutoZone (Fel-Pro) i've been having them look up under 70's Camaros 350 4bbl, 70's pickup trucks 350's 4bbl, etc., but i keep getting these damn gaskets that dont line up good with the holes in the block! everything up until the dipstick hole is cool, then after the dipstick hole the next bolt (the one between the dipstick hole and the bigger corner holes) is off and stuff....
I'll post 2 pics of what I'm talking about, and in the pics, all the other bolt holes are lined up almost perfectly
The gasket number that i'm using is 5197 and its by Fel Pro
What gasket should I be getting?
Thanks

They make a few different gaskets, I ran into this on few engines. Some better gasket sets come with 3 strips and 2 different end peices. Lemme see if i can dig up the part number.
Edit: Looking at your photo thats a PS dipstick should take a #OS30410C if it doesent fit try a #OS5197C-2, all felpro numbers.

are you sure thats the block number? because it should be a drivers side dipstick w/ that number
looks to me like that dipstick hole is on the pass. side seeing how the starter is also on that side
need a pass side dipstick gasket

If you get a gasket for an 85 SBC it will be the correct one.

it's a 1983 Corvette block, that's why it's weird
lol
actually could be the last year for that casting number 1980, starting in 1980 GM introduced passenger side dipsticks witha 2-piece rear main seal
