Right cam with vortec heads.
ok, im building a mild street/strip 350 that i want to expect low 12s out of it. i need help choosing a cam. I have a 350 bored .030 over with forged speed pro pistons should be somewhere around 10:1 compression. manifold and carb include a power plus huricane and a holley 850 dp. Cylinder heads are Vortec 062s with 2.02s and 1.6s with mild porting and the springs can handle up to .530 lift also with 1.5 roller rockers. my setup has hedman shorties that run into 3in all the way back. car has a 5 speed with 3.73s. i need some recomendation on cam ive had a few people tell me to go with the XE274 and ive had a buddy tell me to go with the Lunati Voodoo cam 60104 60104LK 276/284 233/241 .504"/.525" 110/106 Hyd/Hyd 2200-6400
so if anyone can make some recomendations that would be cool. thanks.

-This is a bit off topic but who built your motor? Did you get the rotatging assembly balanced to the cheap forged bobweight?
My next thing is dumb the holley 850dp. Thats wayt oo much carb for a 350 any day of the week for a thirdgen. 750 is calling for 100% ve at like 9000rpm. YOu wont rev that motor that high if your using vortec's.
Remove those junk .530 springs and atleast get .550 springs to utilize those vortec heads. That much lift may seem miniscule but ts actually a turning point in a porformance area.

A cam to match that intake(Which by the way i wont even start to rant on) and heads(actually did a great job), is really up to the rpm range you want to use.
I'd recomend a range of 2500-6500rpm.
I'm not going to recomend a specific cam, just data that fits together in my head. That setup would take a large duation easily, so 230/240 duration seems ok, and lift numbers of .500/510 seem very plausible for you. This cam will fit your current springs, but as a recomendation, it will better suit you to allow more lift and higher spring rates. More lift allows improvment and larger ratio rockers, and weight of spring prevents valve float.

My Vortec heads are stock out of the box. What gears are you gonna run. I see that you have a T-5 in it, so do I . These were on DOT tires.

Comp 218/224. I think its the 262 grind, not sure. Good for a mostly street car. Makes good power on a 350 and it compliments the Vortecs

depends on the amount of porting... usually vortecs flow pretty good on intake side but the exhaust kinda sucks... so get some split duration. stock ZZ4 motors use a 208/221 setup and make 355hp/400tq. not bad at all. unless your exhaust ports were ported/cleaned up and your exhaust/intake ratio is improved over the stock 66-68 percent. i'd say definately step up on the cam... something like a 274 more than likely would make a good well manored car. i'd think the voodoo cam is nice but might be abit big for a mild street/strip car. but i do like the idea of go big or go home. and you would run some good times with that cam. low 12's is anywhere from 106-115mph or so... and i think you'll make that power in either of the cams
