I smell gasoline from outside my car!
Whenever i walk around my car after driving it, i can smell gasoline. Ive looked for any drips on the ground and there arent any at all. And when i take my gas cap off, my gas tank pops as if its de-presurizing or something. Do you think that there is some sort of gasoline leak or what? Thanks.

I had the same problem for a while and just like you i had looked under my car for leakes etc....i had inspected my fuel lines as well as around the fuel filter and that is where my problem was. The nut on one side of the filter had worked its way loose just a little bit where a very small amount of gas had gotten on the line but wasnt excessive enough to drip. I would strart by checking your fuel lines and the the fuel filter area
If everything checks ok driver101 would most likely have your solution

does your car use fuel injectors? If it does it might be your injectors leaking. I had an injector replaced on my '93 and if fixed the smell of gas. Only thing is that on my I could smell gas inside and when i poped the hood.

clogged one can cause gas odor although
its not the most common case.. if u can't seem to find the problem
anywhere else, jsut check that too

Check to ensure all your vacuum lines are intact. I had the same symptoms as you, hooked up a guage and realized I was only pulling 5" of vacuum.
Turns out there was a leak running to the MAP sensor, causing the computer to read the wrong amount of air getting into the engine, which in turn, caused the motor to run pig rich. I could smell gasoline even though there were no leaks.

After looking around for leaks the past few days, today the gas tank has actually started to drip. The drip is coming from the back passenger side of the gas tank. But i think the tank might have rusted through, so it has just slowly gotten worse.

not too sure but it will run u a lot of money
as they'll have to take the rear axle assembly off,
along with couple other stuff..
i'd say at least 3-4hours labor,
plus the tank's cost.

labour guide lists 3.8 hours to change fuel tank. i would expect it to be 4.5 hours through to add for rusted and broken bolts. is your exhaust been changed because it will have to be seperated at the cat to allow for the tank to come down.
good luck

The car doesnt have a bit of rust on it, besides the gas tank so there shouldnt be any rusted bolts or anything. And I got new 3" exhaust about 6 months ago. But they dont have to cut that, it just makes it easier. And does anyone know how much a gas tank should cost? Thank you.

Well i figured out today that the hole must be about half way up the gas tank. The tank leaks until the tank reaches about half way full and then no longer drips. So i guess a screw or something that is in the side of the tank rusted. Or do yall think something else just came loose?

could not even be a hole at all. make sure the check valve is still in place, it would be located at the front side of the gas tank. put the car up on a jack and crawl underneath it, and there should be a black rubber hose about 1/2" diameter that comes out of the gas tank and ends in a black canister looking thing that is about 2 inches around and 3 inches tall. if this is missing then that is your problem, and you can get a new one at GM for approximatly $30
