Do I have a 1 peice or 2 peice rear main seal?

Its an early style block..3970010 block..is that a 1 piece or 2 peice rear main? Its for my 383 and Im looking for a flexplate for it and want to get the right one...I know I need a 153 tooth plate..my motor is internally balanced and I already have the 7 1/4 fluiddampr on the front...

When I ask the parts people for a flexplate they ask me if I have 1 or 2 rear main seal....I have not clue.

Im thinking I got a 2 piece?

help!...LOL

thanks!

010 is a 2-piece block.

The 1-piece was introduced in 86.

The other guy got the years right, but the seal designs backwards.

So you're right, you need a flex plate for a 2-pc style block.

The stock one is about as light as they get; a little TOO light for a performance buid IMHO; you'd probably benefit from a little better one.

Just to put in my 2cents, it is a 2 piece I'm rebuilding a 95 block and I just removed the rear main 1 piece seal. although I had heard it was 88 and up not 86, good luck with your choice. Oh and by the way, you may need to find a better parts supplier if they can't determine whether or not you have a 1 or 2 piece seal. It's not that hard to figure out.
