Dart II Heads

I'm building a 383 and i've got a lead on a set of iron DART II heads, ported and polished flowing 268 @ .600 lift. What would a set of these heads retail for? They're being offered to me with new springs, retainers etc. and 1.5:1 alum. roller rockers for $1500cdn. Any thoughts?

There is no such thing AFAIK.

There are however Dart heads; and there are also World Products Sportsman II heads.

www.dartheads.com
www.worldcastings.com

Which one are they?

268 @ .600" isn't particularly outstanding. No slouch, but certainly not world-beating.

As far as what they're worth and whether that's a good deal, I have no clue; not knowing the exchange rate today. It would depend on WHAT springs are on them, and WHAT rockers they are, and so on. "New", "stock", etc. are not adequate descriptions. It would also depend on what you're planning on doing with them. If they have "new" Comp 981 springs and you're planning on running a solid roller cam, then they're not much good to you. On the other hand, if they're Manley Nextek springs and you're planning on running a Performer RPM hydraulic cam, they're not much good either.

In other words, details matter. ALL OF THEM.

I'm waiting to find out the part #'s on the heads. The guy was running them on a 377 (I believe, 400 d-stroked if i'm not mistaken). I'll get the rest of the info. Unfortunately this is through one of my sales reps whose a mopar guy and drags his darts (340, 440 etc.).

Thanks again.

Dart and World Products were originoally in a sort of partnership on the Dart Sportsman II heads. They have since parted business company and each, produce their own revised version of the origional Dart II head.
"Iron eagle" WP Sportsman II

I'm assuming you have a set of these first gen heads.
When properly ported they ultimatly have 650hp potential.
If these heads do in fact flow 268cfm @.600 they will make in excess of 500hp with the supporting right parts. If so and they are in good condition and they have the right valvetrain parts for your project plans , they are worth the asking price.
But seeing is believing. Take then to someone with a flow bench and test them. ya can't tell by looking at them what they flow. Stock is 224cfm out of the box. A pro porter can get over 300cfm . Exhaust flow is never a problem with these heads. Most "ported sportsmans" flow in the 240-255 range. Where are you located?

Hey F-Bird'88, I'm in Hamilton. The guy that's got these heads races at Cayuga and had them flow tested at 268 @.600. My car's mostly for show, lots of stereo so she's weighted down quite a bit. I'm looking at my first build and I've always wanted a stroker so...

The guy that's got these is pushing about 600hp now but is moving up to a big block and moving up to over 800hp. I'm real happy with 450-500hp.

The combo is looking like:
'96(roller) 350 .030 stroked -> 383
These heads
Comp suggested 280XFI HR13 Cam 280 288 230 236 .576 .570 113°
TBI intake bored to 2", holley 670cfm tbi unit with afpr
haven't decided on crank yet, want forged, one piece seal
haven't decided on pistons yet, want forged. Probably Speed Pro or JE

Currently running Hedman hedders, goerlich ss high-flow cat, magnaflow ss cat-back.

I also am doing my own chip burning now so I should be able to make it all work.

Thanks.

If you'd like to verify the flow numbers, take them down to New Generation Engines in Fonthill/Fenwick on hwy 20.
See /call Andy. Just have him flow them at .600" and then find the peak flow point. May or may not be .600".
If it checks out within 5% or less they are good. Make sure the cylinder head is clean first.
By just verifying the intake flow at .600" you'll minimize your $cost$. He'll charge you a minimal nominal charge for his time. Again, make sure the head is clean and tell him Russell from the Falls sent ya.
