Are these heads any good?
I'm helping a friend rebuild his 350.
They are center bolt heads with 64cc combustion chambers, my friend thinks they came off a suburban, the casting number is 10110810.
I wonder how these differ from the centerbolt heads used on the TPI f-bodies. I was under the impression that all the centerbolt heads were the same.
If your interested the rest of the combo will be:
- Edelbrock performer carb
- Holley contender intake
- Comp Cams 268 cam 224/230 @ .050
- 1 5/8" headers
- 9.5-10.0:1 compression
I'm hoping for 340-360 hp and 370-380 tq

Far from it. TPI heads are 083 castings, pretty good ones. Vortec heads, '96-up, are about the best Gen I production centerbolt heads available.

810's are swirlports, about the least desirable centerbolt heads possible. Okay for a low-RPM, torque/economy engine, but not something to use for a performance application. There will probably be one member who comes in and says with proper porting, they'll rock, but that assumes one very important thing - "proper".

haha, one member eh? Yea, and only one member ...
What's this engine going into? If it's going back into the suburban, they are decent for that application. Cam it down and enjoy the torque.
If it's going into a sports car, then find other heads.

Re: Are these heads any good?
I forgot to mention that the 882's are on the engine already. Is it worth it to change them out for the center bolts?
I would imagine the center bolt are better, most likely the center bolts are 64cc and the 882's are 74cc right?

Re: Are these heads any good?
The 882s are nominally 76cc, actually.
I'm not sure which is worse... kind of like, would death by hanging, or death by firing squad, be worse (make you more dead)? Personally, I would do everything within my power to avoid EITHER. Choosing between those 2 castings is about like that.
Although maybe, you could maybe ask yourself, why do all that work in order to get basically no benefit? About like taking out one stock cam and putting in another stock cam... why spend ALL THAT money, and do ALL THAT work, for THAT LITTLE RESULTS???? Too much maze, not enough cheese. If it works like it is, and that's the only available alternative, leave it alone.
