Anything for cleaning/dissolving RTV off intake?
Today I plan to pull my lower intake off and clean it up good. I didn't originally plan to pull it off, but someone put RTV in the injector bosses, I guess to fix leaking o-rings. The intake was also painted silver (without removing it) and doesn't look all that great. I will probably try soaking it with aircraft stripper, but does anyone know of anything that will eat RTV off? If the stripper doesn't work, then I'll have to spend some time scraping the RTV out of the injector bosses, which doesn't look like much fun.

I've never heard of anything that actually cleans it off.
Have fun scraping

The only thing that I know of that dissolves RTV is gasoline, petrol, pump gas. . .

I was pretty sure RTV was typically un effected by gasoline. I RTV'd around my mechnical fuel pump gasket.
Try laquer thinner, MEK or xylene. Those are the strongest solvents I know of.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. I guess I can try the dremel with a wire wheel, hopefully that will speed it up a little. Thanks for the replies guys, I figured it was worth a shot

Just thought I'd update this thread, in case anyone else has the same problem. A dremel wire cup wheel is the perfect size to get into the injector holes and clean them out. It took about 5 minutes to get every last bit of RTV out of there.

Use some strong thinner, a VERY sharp new razor, and a lint free rag (shop towels for example), and it should come off fairly easy.
