Car: 1989 IROC--1989 T/A
Engine: 5.7 TPI in both
Transmission: W/C T-5 in both
Axle/Gears: B/W 3.27 in both
?'s about 113 head swap and stock short block

Hello all, I am going to install a built up set of 113's on to my 40k mile L-98. I also will be putting in a LPE 211/219 cam.
1. Which head head gasket/bolts do I need? A "stock Fel-pro" for a 91 Vette?
2. Which push rods should i use?

Those heads use the same regular small block chevy head bolts. The Fel-Pro 1010 is most commonly used for aluminum heads but there have been A LOT of problems with those recently. I used stock GM head gaskets.

They also use the same size pushrods as regular small block chevy heads. But you should always double check pushrod length and rocker arm geometry to make sure.

Been awhile, but now i shopping for the build. What GM head gasket did you use? I have read bad things about the .051 gasket. It'sa bone stock short block, upgrading to heads, and LPE 211/219 cam. Thanks

yeah the felpro L98 gasket i have heard of many problems with. You could try to run something like a mr gasket .028 or GM's .028 to help get the quench down since your pistons are down in the hole about .020-.025"

Either way, get those heads cleaned up and worked over for that cam. I think that cams lift is higher than .500 but i cant remember. STock heads need work to handle more than .470" or so. Offset retainers/shims can get you .500-.510 or so

For head bolts the stock y-body are slightly longer and have a hardened washer under the head. The extra length is to make up for the thickness of the washer. The bolts are pricey from GM, I believe ARP sells SBC bolts of the proper length with the washers. Look for bolts for aluminum heads (which is why the washers are required).

For head gaskets avoid the 1010's. The stock GM head gaskets are .052" compressed. May want to spend some time with one of the many on-line compression ratio calculators. And adjust the head gasket thickness for the desire compression ratio.

Note that the '113 heads have soft guide plates. So need to run a self aligning rocker or put in hardened plates & push rods. The stepped plates will interfere with the bracing in the valve cover. Which can be removed, but it is easier to go with flat guide plates.

If you go with roller rockers such as pro-comp's you will need longer rocker studs. Step up to the 7/16" stud along with the rocker to fit. No extra cost, but does provide extra valve train stability.

Note that the four center bolt holes in the TPI base need to be elongated. The '113 heads use the older style intake manifold bolt angle (all the same angle).
