SBC oil pan options

Who is running what for an oil pan?
I'm looking for stock k-member and LT headers application.
I've been checking out the Moroso drag pans with a built-in scraper and kick out as well as an integral windage tray.
I haven't seen or heard of anyone using one in a 3rd gen. Just curious as to whether it would fit.
Maybe there's something comparable on the market?

When I pushed my '88 IROC-Z 350 into the low 10s with a carb'd 355, I was using a stock '88 pan. I never hurt the bearings or anything. How quick are you running?

Re: SBC oil pan options

I'm not running low 10's that's for sure.
Not looking too either. At least not with this latest project.
I'm just looking to make improvements here and there.
Depending on which direction this next build goes, I'd like to participate in a few open road events. If I'm going to be at near 6000 rpm for extended periods of time (rather than a few seconds) I would think a little oil control would be a benefit.

In that case, I'll see if there's anything promising in any of my Manufacturers' catalogs.

Re: SBC oil pan options

I had read an article demonstrating a Moroso pan with baffles, windage tray and crank scraper. I did a little searching but couldn't find it again. Nor was I able to find it on Moroso's web site. The difficult part will be determining whether it will fit a 3rd gen chassis.

Re: SBC oil pan options

I have an ebay special peice of ****. It was suppose to be a road course pan that I had to modify it to fit the chassis. As soon as I had it on a road course and made a long right hander it was apparrent they sold me a circle track pan as I had no oil pressure. I changed the doors around on the inside to make it work. But I'm going to replace it this winter. Canton makes some nice road course pans. Moroso makes a street/strip pan just for 3rd gens that looks pretty good.

Re: SBC oil pan options

Here ya go. Uses stock k member, has a baffle in it, great price. I paid $200 for mine. Wish I'd have gotten this one instead. Buy it and support another TGO member!!!

Re: SBC oil pan options

Still looking for the pan with the built -in scraper and top-side kickout.
Getting closer.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MOR-20191/
The one I'm after has a kick out near the pan rail and adjacent to the scraper. That kick out is what I believe will cause the interference in a 3rd gen chassis.
Found this on the Canton website (thanks TB2).

Or better yet, this one.

Re: SBC oil pan options

still trying to out-trick yourself. If your block is pre-'86, use the Moroso 21804. If '80-'85, then 21807, and if '86-up, then 21808.

It has the features I'm looking for however.....don't circle track specific pans have their trap doors oriented in such a way that left hand turns keep oil in the sump but right hand turns result in the opposite? There was a posting here that alluded to such a situation.

Re: SBC oil pan options

If you're not running an HV pump, this should do well. Notice the built-in full width windage tray. I don't think these have the trap doors in them. Also, in road racing, each turn only lasts about a third as much length as on a big oval, and each left is followed by a right, and vice versa. If you're still not comfortable with it, then don't try it. But I'm comfortable with it.
