If all you have removed is the smog pump then just get a slightly shorter belt. I did on mine. The smog pump doesn't affect belt routing really.

As for starting the engine without the serp. belt on?

Sure, its safe for very short periods. Why is it not safe for longer periods? Because without the serp belt on the water pump is NOT spinning so there is no coolant flow, eventually the coolant in the block will overheat and cause damage.

Re: Can i start the engine without the serpentine belt?

2 or 3 minutes would be too long. Because there is no coolant flow the system will heat the water in the heads first, it could get hot enough to boil and with no flow it may damage things.

as for the article https://www.thirdgen.org/serpentine that article is mislabled. Look at the engine diagrams, he removed MORE than just the smog pump. he also removed the Power Steering pump as well which DOES require a re-route.

this is the routing i used when removed my smog pump. Notice the smog pump on the left is not included anymore. You are shortening the overall path the belt has to travel and such a shorter belt is needed to maintain the proper tension.

When I did mine I left the stock belt on and notated the angle of the serpentine tensioner. I then used a tape measure to get the length of the route. The angle of the tensioner is important! Different angles would mean that tension on the accessories change and I wanted to maintain the stock tension.

Stock routing.

Ok, today took a pic from the belt routing, and is diferent to yours...

i already buy the belt that you recomend me but theres no way that is going to fit so in my case i think i have to go to the 97.8'' belt that is 3'' longer

tomorrow im going to get the new one and try it out...

Re: Can i start the engine without the serpentine belt?

Purchase a AC delete pulley, install ac delete pulley, remove ac stuff, remove smog pump, smog lines, Get the Dayco 968K6, slap it on, your good to go, just did this 5 minutes ago, I spent 140$ on belts, the Dayco 968K6 is the best fit "I bought the autozone brand but its still a 968k6. THirdgen89's routing is the correct routing with this belt, the top picture.

The routing may look different but the accessories still spin the same directions in both images. You can route yours the way I posted and not affect anything.

I second that... Just compare the direction that your accessories spin with the ones in the pic above and you will see what Thirdgen89GTA means.
