The last time I had a set done, it was either $100 each or $150 a pair... I don't really remember. That was labour only, I supplied all the parts.

Depends on what is done & what the goal is for the motor set up.
My Bigblock heads cost over $600 for work!!
Should have saved up a few checks to get aluminum heads I wanted!!
Hot tank // cleaning, milling, porting, polishing, gasket matching, performance valve stem seals, new valves, lapping the valves // seats, new springs ( application specific ), locks, retainers.
Also, depends on the hourly rate or by-the-job rate your shop charges.
Some of it you can do, like
Cutting the heads for the valve stem seals-- Jegs & Summit sell the tool.
Hand-lapping the valves // seats, which requires the compound & tool.
I don't recall the cost of the tools & compounds.

the local machine shop around me is $140 per head plus parts and that's with a 3 angle seat and no porting or modifications.
Needless to say, I drive 20 minutes further and save a lot.

When I got my heads done a long time ago for my iroc, I'm thinking back in 98, I think it cost me 160.00 to have the heads hot tanked, magnafluxed and a valve job. I gave the stem seals for them to put in. That was at a local autoparts store that had a machine shop. Looked like brand new when I got them back.

Re: How much did it cost you to get your Heads redone/rebuilt?
As mentioned above, it depends what needs to be done. I supplied my bare aluminum heads and exhaust valves to a local builder to be done properly. 8 new intake valves, 16 new guides and a valve grind cost me $1200. To help reduce the weight of my 2.300" intake valves, 8 titanium valves at $100 each were out of my budget so we went with 5/16" stem valves instead. Since it needed new guides anyway, it wasn't a big deal. I set up the springs and heights myself.
Because they were properly done, all the valve's and seats were cut to give the same depth. I think I put a 0.015" shim under each spring to get the install height I wanted for the springs.
If I unbolt my heads from the engine and put them on the table, the replacement cost would be around $5000 for all the work that's been done to them. There's a couple of thousand dollars worth of port work done.
For run of the mill factory type heads with a basic valve job, new valve seals and maybe new valve springs, roughly $100-$200 per head is normal. When you start getting into porting, even a mild bowl blend, the price will go up sharply. Switching to larger valves will also increase the price since there's more labor involved. Unless you have some fancy aftermarket head or need it as a numbers matching head, it can be a lot cheaper to just buy aftermarket or even stock replacement heads. Parts are always cheap. Machine shop rates is what will cost you. It's all time consuming.
But again, it all depends on what needs to be done.

Milling wont cost you much. Cost me 30 bucks a head. Taking that much material off might pose an issue though, dunno.

Should be ok with lopping 6 ccs off
Like others said depends on what you want done and your standards of "rebuilt"
Could be a few hundred or well over a grand depending.

I paid $330 to have my afr 190's disassembled, milled just enough to flatten them, cleaned, magnafluxed, 5 angle competition valve job, new seals and the springs were shimmed and reassembled

$200.00 for porting
$300.00 for machine shop to do valve work, spring seat machining, and set up.
just a mild street performance build for me.

Check the valve job
Check the guides for wear. If bad replace them dont do that knurling bs.
Spring tension/installed height/coil bind. Biggie if youre putting a cam in it, many overlook this, drop the springs in and have issues later. Theres more to it than, " Ihave a 480 lift cam and 500 lift springs" then pop them in blindly.
Check top of valves for excessive wear
pretty standard stuff, most shops probably check these things to upsell but shoot if they are off do it right.
Get the best valvejob you can afford, blend it in afterwards so you arent losing flow. Most shops include this, ask though.
Check for cracks.
Porting prices will be all over the place, iron heads usually get more its a pain messy and more time consuming than aluminum.
If someone is really good they know it and it wont be cheap. Always ask for a flowsheet if they dont, then run you dont know what youre getting. Could be a quick "roll" job which does almost nothing but to the uninformed may lead them to believe they are getting more power.
Depth of your pockets or credit limit decides this lol.

Re: How much did it cost you to get your Heads redone/rebuilt?
heh, I've bitched about this before, but typically it's somewhere in the $400-800 range around here for disassembly, cleaning, check them out, valve job, studs, reassembly...
then usually some flat charge per valve stem that needs to be replaced...
I just need to send my stuff out to one of you and have you drop it off at a shop in your area...
