ZZX CAM Users
ZZX cam just came in today. What are you guys installing these at? Straight up advanced? Any dyno number on a 383 11.1 Mini Ram Afr 195 Race Version heads?

The ZZX in my 355 with ported Trick Flow twisted wedge heads is a screamer, even with long runner TPI. I installed mine straight up. I noticed a big gain above 3000rpm from the 223/230 503/510 cam I had run before. With the Mini Ram, it should pull hard to 7,000rpm.

LOL! Looking at your video collection on You Tube and noticed the Somers Racing valve covers on your Vette. Small world man.

No times yet. Only built the engine 12 years ago and haven't gotten around to racing it yet. LOL. Just getting it broke in good. I will be at Woodburn drag this summer. Maybe. Yeah, Archie is my machinist. He's done several motors for me. Including the 355 in my beasty. Anyone who pumps out 750hp small blocks like he does has my confidence.
Did you ever look at TPIS's data on the ZZX? They first ran it in a long runner TPI 350 for the Silver Eagle Challenge. It made 408hp at 5,750rpm and pulled to 6,300 with the restrictive stock base and runners on ported stock heads. I figure I'm running about 450 with my combo and mine pulls well past 6,500. Finally got soft rev set at 6,900. Got tired of hitting the fuel cutoff in my ACCEL DFI at 6,500 every time I pulled hard in second gear.
I've heard of the ZZX making 525 HP in a well built 383 with the Mini Ram.

Yah take your time and break that in right Just before this swap here I had lingenfelter 219 cam with a Ported super ram that went 11.5@121MPH. Now we raised the compression to 11-1 Had Archie change out the springs and added all the trick light weight keepers and added a AFR rev kit and stud girdles and the ls7 lifters, Bigger injectors and Loosed up my convertor from a 3k to a 4k PI 5 Disc Lock up with the updated kevlar clutches. You want to see the sad part of this whole swap?
Hole in my brand new Miniram.
I had to wait 6 weeks for a new one.

I saw video of the Mini ram hole. Didn't notice the hole as well in the video though. That stinks but TPIS seems to be a solid company though and I'm sure they took good care of you. The 150 shot should put you at a solid 670HP. Breaking into the 10s should be very doable. Did Archie squirm over 11:1 compression on pump gas? I remember him telling me he didn't like going over 9.5:1 on street motors. Or do you run 110 race gas. I've been thinking of going with thinner head gaskets to move closer to 10.6:1. I think I could get away with it on the Twisted Wedge heads.

The problem with the cylinder pressure bleed off theory is that the big cam actually produces greater cylinder pressure by introducing more air into the cylinder. While it may cause a drop in cyl pressure below 2,500, it will produce an increase at higher revs. Just the same, I've seen guys get away with 11:1 on pump gas with aluminum heads. The higher compression will make more power. Just be careful with ignition advance.
You will need to carefully watch for knock as you add nitrous. Nitrous retard will be critical. I'm not telling you anything you don't already know. Look for "The Old One" on Google for some interesting research on CR and quench. He was getting up to 16:1 on race gas with 18:1 AFR. Making crazy power with great BSFC. That was in the 80s before NASCAR clamped down on CR to limit power production. Still great info for us.
