700r4 Vehicle Speed Sensor!!!!!!!!

Help from anyone ASAP would be awesome. I'm trying to change out my vehicle speed sensor on my 87 TA with a 700r4 Transmission. I have had a hell of a time getting the old one off, I must have got it off a little bit, cause now there is a slow leak of transmission fluid. I can not break it loose for the end of the world. I've been taking a Flathead screwdriver and using a hammer tapping around the outside, that seemed to be helping at first, by making it crooked, but eventually starting just marring it up to hell. I can take channel locks around the outside of the sensor, but It will only turn the outside of the sensor, the rest of it don't move. I would love to have my odometer ans speedometer working again, this has been ridiculous. I know that if I ever needed to take my tail shaft housing off my Transmission, for whatever reason, the speed sensor would have to come off, because it covers one of the 4 bolts to the tail shaft housing. If anyone has been in this situation or has any knowledge to lend, I would be forever grateful.

Oh yea, I wanted to add that there is a video on you tube of a guy who shows you how to rebuild the 700r4, he just "pops" that damn sensor off like it's nothing. I wish it was that easy for me. here's the you tube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9rvTTUeMH8

start watching at about 1:05 you'll see what I mean.

Re: 700r4 Vehicle Speed Sensor!!!!!!!!

you can remove the tail section with the sensor in place.
Remove the 3 bolts you can get to.
loosen the 4th bolt until its close to sensor
slide the tail section back a bit
continue to remove the bolt until its close to sensor again
Keep repeting that until its apart.
once its apart you can carefully remove the Speed sensor from the inside.
sounds like you may have messed up a seal inside the sensor.

Re: 700r4 Vehicle Speed Sensor!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the quick reply! Now with removing the entire tail section, I'm assuming the drive shaft is going to have to come off as well? I replaced my transmission with another one from another Bird of the same year, the speedometer and odometer worked fine before with the bad tranny, it was when i switched trannys that it all stopped working, and my car throws trouble code 24, so I figured, I know the old sensor worked fine before the old tranny was removed. I was able to get the sensor off the old tranny just fine with a little elbow grease, but that tranny is sitting on my kitchen floor, and much easier to get to. I've never dropped my drive shaft before. All I know is the bad speed sensor is toast, and has to come off ASAP, especially since like you said, I damaged it. I thought this would be much easier, I went and bought a quart of tranny fluid to replace any that I would lose during this whole ordeal, if I drop the drive shaft and tail housing, I'm probably gonna need more than a quart.
