383 stroker oil change
I'm new to the forums, thank you in advance for any advice.
So I bought a 1970 Chevelle with a 383 Stroker motor and decided to do an oil change, which is when I realized how little I actually know about the car.
My first problem was deciding which oil to use (brand, viscosity, conventional or synthetic). I did some research but still could use more advice.
Then I realized that I have no idea how many quarts to put into it. Now, the double-whammy about this is that the dip stick is broken off, so I cannot use that as a guide (but im not sure how much I would trust it even if it was functional). Plus, I've already drained the oil out of it, but measuring the oil that came out of it isnt my preferred method either since I dont trust that it was correct initially (although I did measure it). I've done some measuring of the oil pan and discovered that it was a Moroso oil pan with a depth of 8", which might indicate a 6 quart capacity. However, that does not compare with the amount of oil that I had drained out of the car (which I wont mention as not to alter someones opinion).
I am wondering if there is a sure-fire way of knowing how much oil to put into the car. Thank you for the help.

Only with a proper dipstick.
Like I have told many over the years, it doesn't matter what pan you have on the engine. The dipstick will tell you how far below the oil pan rail the standing height of the oil should be. It doesn't care how deep or wide the ocean is beneath it, it only tells you where "sea level" shuld be.
A MATCHED SET dipstick. Definitely NOT a tube from one and a stick from another. A NEW dipstick & tube set out of the package that was designed to work together to tell you the truth is what you want.
