is it a pain to change the waterpump on the 89 tbi 305.

and if so could some one give me some pointers of how to make it a little easier.

I don't know of any easy way.. the method I used (without removing the rear axle), is remove the rear wheels, dissconected the shocks, removed the springs, exhaust system @ the cat, and swung that out of the way, jack up the car as high as you can, lower the rear axle as low as you can with out damaging the bbrake lines, lower the passanged side of the fuel tank down on an angle (note also remove the plastic parts around the filler neck), and position the tank so that you can (if your small) get your self partially on top of the tank to remove the whole system.. It has been a while since I did the pump, this system was the end result of a day of work, and it did work out well, once I figured out how the tank had to sit on the axle to alow me access.. Hope this gives you some ideas.. if you have not already finished the job.

Did I miss something here? But anyway, I changed the waterpump on my 91 TBI Bird not to long ago and it was pretty straight forward. Just make sure you get a long reverse rotation pump.

Oh, I forgot to mention, you might need a friend to help you get the pulley bolts loose cause the can be pretty snug.

Might be cause I bought a rebuilt one from my local parts store and it was only 24 bucks and has been good so far.

isn't it easier to keep the belt on then take the bolts loose then take the belt off

if they're not too tight, that could work, but you still might have to have someone hold the pulley cause the belt will only hold it to a point

how many containers of coolant did you buy and did the gaskets that came with it do the trick or will i need to buy some type of sealer.

I put in a gallon of coolant and rest water i think, and yes it did come with gaskets and thats all I used after I made sure the surfaces were clean and it never leaked a drop.

not alot of mods yet, but you wouldn't believe the price i got it for and why. 900 bucks because the stearing column was loose. i have the title work to prove milage is correct, but its been in storage and thats why i have had to replace misc. stuff.
like the thermostat and exhast and stuff but i did go with a flowmaster setup complete from flowtech headers to flowmaster muffler and 3 1/2 in angle cut tips sounds meander then it is.

plus a shift kit which gives it that nice chirp in 2nd gr.

The water pump on any TBI is a piece of cake. I changed one on a friends 89 Camaro RS in a little under 20 minutes. Gotta love not fighting a clutch fan when changing the water pump. The only thing that can be a problem like mentioned is the 4 bolts that hold the pully on. Pry a screw driver behind the pully to break the 4 bolts loose or hold the belt real tight. Just make sure to scrape the old gasket material off of the block good and use spray glue or rubber cement to glue the new gaskets on the water pump.

Ah sorry man.. ummm Water pump.. no idea have not done mine yet.. probably should soon though.. I'll read up on the tips for others.. now I feel silly... As for pictures of my car.. nothing all that good right now.. I'll be taking some new ones in a month or so, once I finish workin on it..
