84 Z28 VS r!ced 240sx
Well me and the guys were all sitting around shooting the **** today while we changed the intake and carb on my buddys 86 chev truck which is don eup pretty nicely.
So we were wrenchin away and our other friend just got his 240sx back from the shop after spending some ungodly ammount of money on it ($18k i believe) just had body kit, wing, stereo, clutch, ignition system, some fuel management sytem, fart cannon and a few other goodies put on it.
So he wanted to go out of town for a few runs on our ghetto 1/4 mile strip (just behind my car in the picture in my signature), so i told him i would go for a ride and run him. So we got out there he demanded the right hand lane but whatever i dont care. The first run we lined up, My buddy in my passenger seat did the count and we both spun a bit on the line as the pavement was still a bit wet from the rain earlier but i still took him off the line and by second gear he was past my rear bumper.
Then he wanted to run again but he wanted to have a 2 car head start, i agreed and we lined up with him about 2 cars ahead. As my car was too damn loud we agreed i would just take off when he dumped the clutch, fine by me. So he revs up dumps the clutch and were both off, it took me a bit to catch up but by the top of second gear i had just pulled infront of him and i hit third and he was just lights in the mirror.
So the whole time me and the guys have been telling him that im just running a stock V6 with straight pipes and after this the guy was pissed that he just spent that much money on that POS and my big ol heavy chevy spanked it.
So that was my fun for the night, and whats wrong in my head for thinking it might have been a close race.

18k dollars on a 240 and hes not running 9's? Sounds like the rip off of the century to me... Good thing he got that body kit so it would atleast Look fast...
Apparently he spent his $$ in the wrong area if hes trying to drag race it... sounds like it should be in a show not on the strip

Their was $18k spent on the car, being canadian dollars and the high price of getting stuff way up here it will get alot less for the money than what you would think.
I know he did spend a good chunk of that money on dress up but he did spend a few dollars on his drivetrain too.

240sx's are all slow stock. That KA24DE motor wasn't meant to be put in a sporty car. Its a truck motor that hates to rev. Not that torque is a bad thing, but a 2.4L 4cyl can't produce that much torque without FI anyways.
Now the ones with SR20DET swaps or RB26 swaps are cool. I had considered buying one and building an SR20VE or SR20VET motor of some sorts and dropping it in. I was pricing out RB26DETT swaps, but those get quite pricey and there was more modification required.
As stated above, I'd hope none of that $18k was spent on performance parts. You can have a 240sx in the 12s or 11s for $3-4k

Yes it is pretty neat looking little car, Its one of the few r!ce rockets i wouldnt mind having in the driveway. It does have a bit of room under the hood, maybe a 350 could be shoehorned in there. That would make it a hell of a fun car!

Why go through the trouble of putting a 350 in the car, when there are plenty of other motors (that are already made for that car) that will fit better and be just as fast? This reminds me of the time my uncle said something about putting a 350 in an Eclipse. I tried not to laugh and tell him that you can run 9's on the motor that's already in it without even boring it out. It's okay though, he didn't know any better.

And in cars like the rx7 (which i think is a beautiful car) and an Ls1/ m6 you can maintain a 50/50 weight ratio, full interior a/c etc, drive it on the street, autocross it, and run a 10 sec 1/4...
Plus have you ever heard of torque stu? Rotaries dont make power undere 3k rpms... so in that case i think it would be worthwhile. Ok did i answer your question now?
Oh and FYI an LS1 m6 will slip in with no trans tunnel mods...
Wheres the downside?

Don't even bother trying. Stu knows his stuff, but honestly he is very thick headed. I almost allways get annoyed at what he has to say......Just me saying this will open the flood gates from hell I am sure.
I have wanted to say that he gets on my nerves for months now.
He will NEVER agree that a SBC is the way to go, EVER.
even if thay were 5 bucks and made 2000 HP. Just move on and leave him alone.

LOL i know ive been on these boards way longer then Stu, (this is something like my 3rd account...) I want to see his reasoning why an LS1 in a rx7 is a bad idea... The rotary heads ive met have only one reason... "well its not a rotary so its blasphemy..."

I didn't say you could run 9's on an Eclipse motor without forging it, I said without boring it. Stock displacement, does that help?
Who's even talking about an RX-7? If you could keep the 50-50 weight distrobution with an LS-1, I'd probably do that (if I had to pick an RX-7) because the rotary motor is way to high maintenance.
It just seems like way too much of a pain in the *** to cram some other motor from a different manufacture into the car. If you can do it with the motor it comes with, why not? I guess this is where the whole
"I just want to be different okay? Is that okay with you Stu? Can I be different? Can I be different than all the masses and put a 350 into another car? Even though that's the motor that every single person ever to grace the internet would put into any car they can dream of. Would it be okay for me to be my own person and do whatever I want since it's my money? Even though I'll never spend money on a project like this, so it's completely a waste of time just to argue over it. You won't call me names if I put a 350 in an RX-7 will you Stu? What about an RX-3? Would that be okay?"
