walbaro intank 255lph pump part #

did a search didnt get much on the part#.
engine swap getting close, need to upgrade my stock TPI intank pump to a 255lph pump... motors a HSR 383 with 30# SVO injectors roughly 500hp so im gona need the extra fuel. price is 110$ are they any better than holleys/edelbrock etc bc they sell for 160$

walbaro has 2 diff designs... one being the straight inlet and outlets or the one with staggered inlet/outlets. which one is for my 87 formula 350?

straight or offset? part # would be appreciated as well

Re: walbaro intank 255lph pump part #

I went with www.jdsperformance.com
It's straight. Walbro 255lph high volume.

On a side note - does anyone know what type of fuel line comes with the pump? It doesn't say if it's J30R10 or not on my piece. JD's doesn't know and Walbro hasn't answered me yet.

what does it matter as long as it holds the pressure it was intended to hold and can withstand the gas?

Re: walbaro intank 255lph pump part #

thanks, i guess its the straight one lol

the line is prob just regular high pressure rubber fuel injection hose... any rubber/stainless braided high pressure hose thats good for 300 psi will do(fuel resistent of course). even a 100psi would be ok but pushing it since these pumps are goood for 130psi i think.
----------
the one at the JDperformance... it has 2 that fit our car... one is a reg 255lph and the other is a 255lph high pressure one. the high pressure is 10$ more... wat kinda of pressure difference are we talking about here. i think the reg 255lph runs at a max of 60psi.... wat does the highpressure one run? and is it even neccessary?

J30R10 is submersible fuel line. R7 is only good for running gas inside the line. If you submerse R7 it will degrade.

There is a link at their website that shows the difference. I believe the biggest difference is it'll hold higher pressure for longer.

Re: walbaro intank 255lph pump part #

To answer the original question, the actual Walbro pump number (the number stamped on the pump) is as follows:

Standard 255 LPH Intank pump - GSS307
High Pressure 255 LPH Intank pump - F20000169 or GSS340M
(GSS340M is a discontinued piece I believe, some vendors still carry it)

Either will work just as well on TPI equipped Fbodies, the high pressure unit is better suited than the regular pump at pressures over 60 psi.

The Holley, and BBK fuel pumps are reboxed Walbro fuel pumps for certain. I don't know about Edelbrock, but I'm assuming it will be the same with them.

Viprklr, the hose included in the Walbro install kits does not make any reference to SAE J30R10. I did locate the hose manufacturer though, and I've been meaning to give them a call and find out, but I haven't gotten around to it.

Re: walbaro intank 255lph pump part #

I still have my HV pump sitting on the shelf. My hose doesn't indicate whether it's R10 or not either. I called the people that I bought the pump from and they said to call Walbro. I emailed Walbro - no reply. I've called Walbro and no one has gotten back to me yet. I'm not putting this pump in until I know if it's R10 or not. Nobody around my area seems to sell R10. I find it assinine that I would have to order 6" of hose.
If you could call the hose manufacturer and let us all know, that'd be great!
----------
Over 60psi? I don't know of any TPI's that run that high but that's not the point. Why not get a better pump if for no other reason than safety? Who knows. Someday you may need it. Dropping the tanks in these cars is no walk in the park.

Re: walbaro intank 255lph pump part #

why wouldnt it be r10 if it comes with the pump? Others have had these in there cars for years now with no trouble. They probably didn't return the emails because they figure "why would we not use r10" Thats a unusual question.

Re: walbaro intank 255lph pump part #

Because ASSuming is not something I like to do. Just cause it came with the pump doesn't necessarily mean it's R10.

i got mine from racetronix... GSS340M walbro pump and their hotwire wiring harness kit. this runs straight voltage from alternator output to drive more volts to the pump. it will support plenty of power. is it necessary? no but is nice to have for future upgrades

it was like 170 bucks shipped

Re: walbaro intank 255lph pump part #

I spoke with the materials engineer at the hose manufacturer earlier today. They confirmed that the hose in the Walbro kits is manufactured by them, based on the stampings on the side of the hose. I was told the hose was designed for Chrysler specifically, to MSEA 231 specifications (I believe this is Chrysler's hose specification), which is equivalent to SAE 30R10 from what I understand. I was unable to find anything online on MSEA 231, but they did assure me that it is suitable for use in a submerged fuel environment.

To answer a question previously brought up... no one really runs a TPI engine at over 60 psi, but the difference between the high pressure pump and the standard pump comes down to pump performance above 60 psi. We stock both pumps, and we actually offer the high pressure pump for $12 less than the standard pump since our cost is lower on the high pressure pumps. Other than a possible price difference depending on the vendor, there is no significant benefit to running the high pressure version instead of the regular pump on a Tuned Port application.

Re: walbaro intank 255lph pump part #

I second the hose. Diane Hutchinson at Walbro confirmed that the hose in their kits is 30R10 submersible line.
They finally got back to me.

Re: walbaro intank 255lph pump part #

if you run ls1 injectors, they are rated at 58 psi so you may actually see 60psi on a TPI car with LS1 injectors but thats rare example

Re: walbaro intank 255lph pump part #

Update:

I received a phone call from the materials engineer at the hose manufacturer the day after I posted on here about the hose being suitable for in-tank use. He mentioned that to be 100% certain, it would be best if we mailed in one of the hoses in question.

Well, we did that, and we received the hose back in the mail along with a letter from the testing services manager. In the letter, they said that the hose is manufactured to MSEA235 (this is a different standard from the one in my previous post), which is not suitable for in-tank use. They said they do not recommend this hose for in-tank applications.

They had previously answered my question according to the markings on the side of the hose which I read to them while on the phone. However, I believe I may have overlooked a number sequence thats printed on one side, but not the other.

One side of the hose reads : Fuel 5/16" EFM-EFI 18519
The other side reads: 5/16 Fuel 18519 2356

I remember thinking the markings were the same on both sides, so I read off the first line, but not the second line which has the 2356 number.

So now we have conflicting information. I guess i'll just get R10 and not use the hose supplied. This blows.

bbk's fuel pumps are made by walbro. I bought my bbk through my work and it says walbro right on it.
