coolant bypass
I just did the coolant bypass so no coolant goes through my throttlebody. I have a part number for a hose at autozone that works perfect for this bypass. D87658 If you cut just over an inch off the 90 degree bend end it will have a bend that will go behind the serpbelt tensioner I cut about 3 inches off the other end. this is alot better than using a straight piece of hose that doesnt look that good. It took me 10 minutes to do the bypass. I hope this helps

I too just completed this mod and with that hose it was a breeze. Trimmed off about 1 inch at the manifold and about 3 going to the diverter valve. Put on a couple hose clamps and I'm ready to go. I used the factory clamp at the diverter valve but used a regular clamp at the manifold. The air intake covers it up though. Thanks for the lead on the hose.

Performance gains by not running hot antifreeze through the TB are negligible. But it still seems to me that keeping the TB as cool as possible just makes sense. No negative tradeoff here, unless you are driving to Alaska for Christmas, in which case you may suffer icing. And once you do the bypass, it makes future removal of the TB or plenum much less messy.

Avoids unnecessary heating of the Throttle Body, potentially cooling the air for a couple of HP.
If you live somewhere very cold, the heated Throttle Body would be required, otherwise it will just heat the intake air.
Also simplifies the cooling system a little bit. less stuff to fail or be replaced.

It looks cleaner when you remove the inlet and outlet, easier to remove throttlebody, throttlebody doesnt get as hot. If you live it the north where it gets really cold ice may form and the coolant going through it will melt it faster.

I don't understand, how would you get carbon in the TB and why would a higher temperature clear it?

I did the mod and although im not gonna say it made a huge difference, i did notice a slightly better throttle response, especially when at operating temp.
It also gets you slightly better mpg's because of the colder air intake temp.
Definetly would recommend if you live somewhere warm (im in NC), and it only costs +/- $5 and abt 20min of your time.

I dissagree with you. for the 2 1/2 years I have owned my car I have had to clean my throttlebody every 6 months because I would get a buildup to the point that my car will not run when cold and died when it was warmed up from low idle. I remove the throttlebody clean it really well put it back on instantly my car will run perfect again. I just did the bypass so up till a couple weeks ago I have had the coolant going through the throttlebody. I will post in 6 months to let everyone know the long term affect of doing this mod.

It doesn't clear it. What it does is evaporate the condensation that occurs behind the throttle plate (both on the plate and in the ports). It's this condensation that carbon deposites stick to. So, by minimizing the condensation, it minimizes both carbon build up and icing.

I dont know what you would consider driving alot in the 2 1/2 years I have owned it I have put just over 40k miles on it ( I love driving my car) lol. I know the engine is original probably has blowby due to having over 180k.

Laying the hose in there, I didn't see how it was supposed to be such a good fit?

And it does fit pretty good!

I'm originally from Indiana and I visit there annually. I'm here to tell you that I know it's friggin cold up there. I'd leave it connected during the winter since you'll be doing highway driving. You could have icing problems without the added heat if it were say cold (<40F) and raining.
Mine is still stock, but I'm considering changing it now that I've seen this hose. Looks like a factory fit with the bends. Thanks for reviving the thread.

if you want to get creative and completely relocate the hot water valve then heres my setup
