Yup, done it here. Engine specs are on the link in my signature. And yes, I like 'em! Still able to run 89 octane on the street without running up huge knock counts, plenty of low and mid-range pull, and great (29+ mpg) gas mileage.

I should have polished the ports and chambers before installing them, the castings are really nasty and probably costing me some efficiency.

Does anyone know what the maximum valve size is that can be put in the L98 heads with some effort? Thanks

HOW did you manage 29 MPG ??

I run them currently on my L98 in stock, unported/unpolished form. I use 92 octane (haven't really experimented with lower octane) and pull about 20 MPG. Are you using HFM/HSM ?

However, I'm pulling mine soon to install new heads/intake/cam.

6-speed manual trans and a nice, steady 65mph cruise with highway mode enabled in the PROM.

Ran a set on my last 357. They ran good with the stock tpi. times in the sig. I also got a best of around 20 mpg. But this is with 3.73 gears and i can't keep my foot out of it.

You can put any size valves you want in there. Realistically, most people stick to 2.00 on the intake and 1.60 on the exhaust so theres not alot of work involved in putting the bigger valves in. It wouldnt be that bad to put 2.02 on the intake but everything I've read says that requires replacing the valve seats.

aluminum vette L98 heads are 58 cc that is why they work on a 305

I paid for a set last month on e-bay and I guess the dirt bag is keeping my money and my heads. E-bay has not been much help yet. I did pay with a postal money order and the post office tells me it will fall under mail order fraud. I will get this guy. I will not give up 461.00 for nothing. Beware of this guy he goes by NRGZ28 or apexdigitalz. I sent the money to Edmond Indre of Las Vegas NV. Recently see on his feed back he's got another guy for 250.00 for a set of tires. Watch out guys.Becarful on e-bay. This is my only bad deal so far.

Funny max. I've got a set of those heads on my 305. Running 13s on the gtech but we'll see come next saturday. Mine are ported and polished with crummy headers and very stock intake. Hopefully more cubes are in the future if I can afford it.

blackbird, if u still can't get this guy go to turbobuick.com and go to their classifieds board. I guy by the name of Joe 1320 had a problem with a little pissant from Chicago that stiffed a lot of turbo buick guys out of quite a bit of $. Well Joe did a process step by step and get him and just about everyone's money back. Check out the thread, its a sticky thread at the top entitled "Anyone know Joe Cipola?"(that's the scumbag that dicked everyone) Hope this helps

Thank You guys. I will stick with this. The guy on the phone says I have the wrong number . We will see. I am 43 years old not some young kid who is going to get ripped off. I will hire a detective or what ever it takes. I think my company can swing that.

And yes, I have L98 Corvette heads on my car.

Don't worry I will. There will not be a car club or web site I will not contact with his name. This is bull **** and it must stop. I have had several people in the Vegas area will to speek to the NV police if need be. I am still gathering info for the NY state police to contact them with. I will also forward it to the FBI mail fraud unit and have them take a look. There is an internet divison which will ask e-bay questions and e-bay shut him off at this point. I will not give up. It is a personal thing now! I WANT MY MONEY. I even had 2 guys tell me how to find him week ends. South West 99.00 speical.

Guys, watch what you say. Don't get Dirk in trouble because this guy's a piece of crap. Do not make threats or insinuate anything. It can come back and bite you in the ***. If you want another good example of how to go about building your case, look up a thread started by "Bubblehead" on the C4 parts for sale board at http://www.corvetteforum.com . He handled the situation perfectly.

I have just installed a set of these heads on my 305 along with a bunch of other stuff.

As for little red riding hood there, I hope he gets it good. And while he's getting it, how 'bout you get those chrome rims off him for your trouble

I agree this is not Dirks problem and hopfully it is going to end. I got an e-mail a few minutes ago from him. I think the guys in his club in vegas talked to him. He says he just got them off the car and I will have them next week. I will let everyone know. It shows if everyone sticks together you can get results. I would never do anything against the law. Hell part time I am the law. My friend are dieing to get on this. I have spent many hours doing things right .Finding info ect. You can stop these things from happening. I had over 25 e-mails sent to me from 4 or 5 states. Long live honesty and if I ever can help you or give you some advise how to make the system work I will. E-bay strongly supports finding these people. They have to , e-bay is built on peoples honesty. From what I see this web site is a great bunch of guys young and old who just want to have fun.

Hey Rob, I was thinkin about throwin a set on my 305 too, if I can find em cheap enough. How much did you notice from then anyway? Just curious if its worth it or not. I would be doing a cam change at the same time aswell.
Thanks

Rob,

First of all I have to say what a great name you have. I feel that it truly is the best name I've ever heard of in my entire life.

As for the heads. I'm getting my car back this afternoon so I'll e-mail you later on tonight to tell you my mods and the difference in power.

Regards

Rob

Is it true that the vette heads wil make more power on a 305 than 350? I know it may sound stupid but i've been hearing that from alot of guys when i use to go to Raceway park. So far i have no problems with the vette heads in my 305. I use to play with my friends stock 305 91 TPI camaro and it really had no *****, but every shift in my car is like a dream. Plus spending $300.00 on both heads which were rebuild already and the $300.00 porting and polishing job looked great.

Will vette heads boost compression?
What are the intake/ exhaust valve sizes on these heads?
How many cfm will the intake side flow per runner after porting polishing?

These Heads are 58 cc and will boost compression over standard heads.I believe it will be 10:1 This will help horsepower but it will require better gas. I plan on putting these on my 89 GTA and have been told if I use a dished piston my compression will be 9.5 to 1 and also believe it gives a better swirl in the chamber. I hope to find out.

They shouldn't boost compresion on a 305. My compression with these heads and flat top pistons is about 9:1. I can't remember the specifics of my head gasket thickness. Also, stock compression for 305s was 9.3:1. Was the 305 head 55 or 58cc???

Valve sizes for the aluminum L98 heads are 1.94 and 1.50.

Regards

Robert

When and if I get my heads I want to run SLP headers. Is there going to be a problem with the wires hitting the headers? If so what do you do?

Should have no problem as the Vette heads are the same dimensions as the steel heads. Only difference is D shaped exhaust ports, I believe.

blackbird, these heads have angle plugs, I have a set of hooker SC headers and am using MSD wires, havent had any problems so far, the boots did touch but it seems that the rubber that MSD uses on their wires will melt down a little and then turn hard on the surface cause I havent had any leaks, Im also using just the 90 degree boots, so maybe the 45 degree boots could work better. but then again this is in a monte carlo and Im not sure what difference there would be between the SLP headers and the hooker headers but at the head I would assume they are the same dimensionally.

The exhaust ports are raised 0.100" higher than stock iron heads. That will cause a problem if you're using Edelcrock's 1 1/2" headers. It should be ok with true 1 5/8" headers and definitely ok with 1 3/4" headers.

And maybe to add some technical info to this.... I've had these heads on my car for a few thousand miles. I bought them brand new from a GM dealer. I'm dissapointed in their performance with TPI which is the reason I decide to sell them and go with Trick Flows. I had a pretty good cam, SLP runners, custom chip etc etc and I was still in the low mid 13s. It might be a wise idea to give them a port job when you receive them. Hell for the price you them for... it would be worth it.
