Doug Nash 5 spd. vs. Richmond 5 spd.
Does anyone know the difference between these two transmissions? I know they stopped making the Nash a few years ago and the company was taken over by Richmond. I'm looking for differences in power ratings, shifting characteristics, sizes and shapes, gear set interchangeability, parts availability, and anything else you can think of. What would be the better tranny overall? I'm leaning towards the Nash because of cost (swap meets), and gear interchangeability, but I don't really know all that much about the Richmond 5 speed. Someone please inform me.

Car: Depends on what day it is..
Engine: Um, Chevy small-block
Transmission: One that shifts
Axle/Gears: Got those too...
The Doug Nash transmission is the prdecessor to the Richmond gear transmission. Doug Nash design was bought by Richmond gear when Doug Nash had financial problems around 1987. Essentially, Doug Nash was producing manual transmission planetary overdrives for the C-4 corvette and began having quality control issues. Shortly after they went belly up and Richmond gear bought them. The Richmond 6 speed is an evolution of the 5 speed.
The Doug nash 5 speed should be comparable to the richmond in terms of torque capacity and gear ratios and if you are able to get a model from about 1985, you would have a fairly stout tranny.
