Plastic tailshaft plug to keep fluid in trans on engine pull
Does anyone know where I can order those little plastic plugs to plug the driveshaft splines/seal when I have the driveshaft out? 700R4 if this makes a difference. I'm going to be pulling my engine/trans this spring and don't want trans fluid going everywhere if I can help it. It's much easier to drain things outside of the car rather than fumbling around while the car is on stands... Searched with no results.

I just use an old drive shaft yoke.... you could probably pick up a fornicated one at any shop that works on drive shafts & U-joints, that would work fine as a b.... errrr, tail plug

Transmission: ProBuilt 700R4 Road Race with Edge 9.5" 2800 stall lockup converter
I saw some at the local Kragen parts store the other day. Personally, when I put in the new driveshaft, it came with a new yoke so I kept the one off the old driveshaft just for that purpose. It will get used next weekend when I swap trannies....

Yeah, just use an old yoke and weld the weep hole shut. Then duct tape it to the tailshaft so it doesn't slide out and you're good to go.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I was really looking for the "spend a few bucks and have it show up on my door step" way though. No driveshaft shops on my side of town. They're all painstakingly out of my way. Anyone know if the GM transmissions share tailshaft hole size? Seems all of the little plastic plugs you need to know the size of the hole... 1.5" is all I've found so far for GM trans' online.

You can also take a 1 liter soda bottle and cut the end off of it and then slide it over the tailshaft as far as it will go. Then duct tape the heck out of it. I've used this before in a pinch and to make trail repairs, and it's kind of el cheapo, but it works.

Another option is to drop the pan and drain the fluid..... Not the way I want to do it!!!!!!
Several GM transmissions use the same yoke. The Th-350, 700-R4, Th-200 & 200-4R, and I think all the stick shift cars used the same yoke. I do know the Th-400 uses a larger yoke....

That's not as ghetto as what i did one time. I just duct taped lot's of socks over the tailshaft one time when i was in a rush to swap trans. You can imagine how long that lasted till the tranny fluid soaked through the socks
