Hard shift into gear on 700R4

So I just got my 350 in recently, and have been driving it. The first thing I noticed was that when I put it into gear (reverse or drive) from park or neutral the car lunges (and I'll have my foot on the brake all the way) and it chirps the tires.

Now, I know that my 350 has a little bit more power than my 305, but even so, I dont think it has THAT much power... something has got to be wrong with it?

My idle is set correctly, at high idle is is around 1100rpm, when it warms up it's around 750. I know this is still a little high, but it's not too much more than stock. (This is on a CCQ-Jet)

Would the lock-up have something to do with this? I find it hard to idle sometimes and have to keep my foot on the gas pedal to keep it going every now and then, seemingly at random.

These harsh shifts into gear really make me worry about the longevity of the trans and such since it must be working overtime to try to move, but I'm keeping my foot on the brake.

Thanks in advanced

TTT.

Is this part of the corvette servo's action? I dont think that 'vettes have this hard of a lunge into gear. When I say it lunges into gear, it's as-if I were to drop a clutch at 2500rpm, and have my foot on the brake so all it does is jump me forward a little bit, and chirp the tires (this is a scenario as-if I had a manual...).

Still looking for any clues. Thanks.

do you have a shift kit in it. i got a corvette servo and tc no lung when i shift into reverse or drive. i put a shift kit in a tranny a while back that did that.

nope. All I've done to it is the 'vette servo. Still has the stock torque converter, etc.. I just put new tranny fluid in it when I did the engine swap.

Could a stretched TV cable cause it?

Because I dont think this is healthy for any part of my drivetrain. Not to mention that now my tranny doesnt shift up into park anymore, it just stays in reverse. But I think that's something with the tranny shift linkage itself.

what is acceleration and cruise like? there and many things that can cause this. your tcc could be dragging, your stator could be freewheeling. does it have trouble idleing in gear? in ether case you can have poor take off, fair to sluggish acceleration, and a normal cruise.

Shifting is hard into first, softer into 2nd and shifting into 3rd feels like before the motor swap (between motor swap I did the corvette servo, I'm guessing the shifts between gears are from that).

I can never seem to get the tranny to shift where I want it to be. If I get it to shift at the right points in light footedness, it will shift too soon in WOT situations, or vice-versa.

It seems to idle good when I first start it up, then I'll go to work or something, and start it up again in 30 minutes and I wont be able to idle very well and end up having to keep my foot on the gas to keep it going.

It doesnt have a problem idling out of gear though.

All I've "done" to the transmission is the corvette servo, and a poly urethane transmission mount bushing to replace my broken old one.

Thanks for the replies, this problem is keeping me from feeling as though I can drive my car safely daily.

not to jack your thread but i have a similar problem with different symtoms.

my car also shifts hard into first and reverse from park/neutral. sometimes causing the car to stall, but not always.

my shifts from first to second and on from there are nice and firm but not harsh. when i start it up or put it in park/neutral from first/reverse the rpms rev up to 1100 and slowly fall to about 750 or so. in drive the car idles slightly above 500.

i recieved the car from my dad this way and dont know very much about it. the transmission was rebuilt not too long ago, but my dad said the car never did this before he gave it to me. he said that there wasnt a shift kit on it but i am not sure (he has a bad memory). the only thing i know about the torque converter is that it is orange in color. there is also a remote tranny filter on it. any help would be great.

When you shift out of park are you still over 1000 rpms?

You cant kick it down to 550 rpms? Try to lower your idle
maybe that will help.

The only time my car shifted hard was when the TV cable was
loose, it wouldnt shift out of first untill 4500 rpms.
Talk about wheel hop, it sucked especially in traffic.

I dont have a cpu carb though..
goodluck

Re: Hard shift into gear on 700R4

Anyone know the cure to this issue? Im having the same exact problem. Has a new lokar cable, lock up switch from painless, rebuilt tranny, new convertor. The car is a very moderate cam, but we've tried so much, we're thinking it might need a bigger stall than stock?

thank you
