Factory 4th gen Posi...what type and is it rebuildable?

I searched and couldnt find the answer I was looking for. I've got a rear end from a '94 Z28 for my '91. It's got 125K on it, and knowing the kid I got the car from, I'm sure the posi could use a rebuild. What type of Posi is in the 4th gen rears? Is it an easy rebuild(clutch packs?) or is it a non-reuildable Auburn cone type like what's in the B-bodys, or something else entirley? in the future, i'll upgrade to probably an Eaton, but for now it's out of the budget. Thanks for the info.

It's an Auburn.

The parts to rebuild it cost as much as, or more than, a new unit.

Call Auburn up.

They have had a cheap rebuild service available for the last couple years.

Not sure what models are covered but its like $250, maybe more mabye less, havent looked into for quite awhile and all my stuff was new at the time.

Not sure if this applies to the OEM stuff or not however.

No, Auburn no longer services those ancient stock units.

No, it's not a Zexel.

I know; I have one (about a 96 or 97 one, by its part #), and it's trashed, and talked to them about it.

Their "DREX" program is only for their current products; and is only cost-effective for the high-perf ones. You can buy a brand-new stock replacement one for less than that $250 it would take to repair one of the ones that they'll actually repair.

This is just one more good reason not to buy Auburn products at this time; they're not really intersted in serving the needs of people like us.
