Car: 92 Camaro
Engine: 305tbi
Transmission: 700r4
no computer and a 700r4?

i have a 92 camaro and a 700r4 i ripped out and the computer wiring harness including the connector that goes to the tranny... someone told me that without that hooked up the tranny won't shift. if im not mistaken its for lockup only and that the tranny will operate just fine without being plugged in. correct me if im wrong.

Yes, the computer has no control over the transmission. It will shift just fine without a computer. You'll need to pick another way to control the TCC though.

it will shift but you won't get the lock up function which is going to KILL your gas milage + build a lot of heat as a result of the slipping converter which will wipe out that tranny in a hurry.

You'll need to pick another way to control the TCC though. What does TCC mean? An how would you control it? I'm changing my car to a holley 950 commander wire harness and was wondering will it control my 700r4?

TCC is the torque converter clutch. It needs to be locked while cruising in 4th to reduce heat. I don't know if the Holley Commander can handle it, but there are a number of other ways to do it.

The Holley C950 will not control the TCC. You will need to get a kit from TCI, Hughes, Painless, etc. to control torque converter lockup. I have seen an article in a post somewhere here o TGO about pressure switch that can be installed in the valve body to lockup in 4th gear.

get a bm

theres different kits

i have a B&M TC lockup kit ...was 170 bucks, you can lock up the tc whenver....

but theres also cheaper kits that do it with out no manual option

Just about every kit can have manual operation if you add a $0.69 switch.

Ok so if I get the botieoverdrive kit for $70 and a 69cent switch it will do everything the B&M kit will do? When should the switch be turned on when racing? Is that what you mean by manual operation?

Manual operation means you can flip the switch and have the torque converter locked or unlocked any time you want.

Problem with the BTOD's kit, is that if you go to WOT, and there is to much load, or no downshift, you will fry the torque converter clutch. Use the GM vacuum switch which will automaticlly lock & unlock when needed, based on vacuum.
