350 engine with t5 trans flywheel issues
ok heres the deal, i got an 82 z28 with a swapped in 350, engine year unknown, the 3 speed trans died on me, so i bought a t5 trans with all needed equipment off an 89 rs with a 305 engine, i got the auto trans out and the new pedel assembly in, now im stuck with a flwheel that doesnt fit, i need a flywheel with 153 teeth, but it has to have a larger bolt pattern and center hole to bolt to the engine. does such a thing exist??? i cant seem to hunt one down anywhere. any help is welcome. i was going to look in to having the 305's flywheel machined to fit if possible? Please help me figure this out! Thanks

Re: 350 engine with t5 trans flywheel issues
ive got a 153 2 piece rear main flywheel for 25 plus shipping if you need it.
----------
forgot to add it was bolted to my 82 LG-4 when I did the 5 speed conversion in my car but then I swapped to a 1 piece rear main 350 so this flywheel is of no use to me now. all teeth are perfect and can have it turned at extra cost before shipping.

Re: 350 engine with t5 trans flywheel issues
if the center hole in the flywheel is too small, it means the engine is a 2pc rear main seal, and the flywheels if for the later style 1 pc rear main seal.
you need a 2 pc rear main flywheel.

Re: 350 engine with t5 trans flywheel issues
You need the flywheel for a V8 T-5 Camaro Firebird from 83 to 85.
The transmission does not care what flywheel you use. It doesn't touch it, can't see it, can't even smell it. Don't worry about it.
You will find that there are 2 flywheels listed for the above applications. It usually doesn't say this, but one is for the grocery-cart cars with the low-perf LG4, and the other is for the high-perf cars, with the L69. The difference is the weight: about 22 lbs for the low-perf one, vs about 16 lbs for the one you want. Either will work but you'll probably like the light one ALOT better.
AFAIK there are no other applications that will work. However I do know for ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY CERTAIN that the one for 83-85 Camaro/Firebird V8 WILL work.

Re: 350 engine with t5 trans flywheel issues
i dont know bout that because didnt the 83-85 camaros not have 350's with a t-5?? i remember getting a flywheel that would finally fit the center hole and bolt pattern but it was to big to fit in the trans, it seems i cant find a flywheel with the larger size bolt pattern and center hole, and also only have 153 teeth to fit in the t-5.. this is driving me nuts. any other in put on this, i need a straight answer.

You were given one .... you need a 83-85 305 flywheel thats the only thing that will fit your application .... doesn't matter if you have a 350 the 305 flywheel will fit.

Re: 350 engine with t5 trans flywheel issues
it worked out perfectly i just got the trans in and everything is almost done. i just went to advanced and got a flywheel for an 84' camaro 305, it has the large center hole and 153 teeth, fits like a glove... but now for some reason i need to have my driveshaft reduced 2 or 3 inches, i thought the 600r4 and the t5 used the same drive shaft but theres no way it'll fit in there. and i dont think theres any trick to get it to fit. should just go right on.

im pretty sure the part number is 506516 because its on the reciept, but the website says its part number 6516, hope this helps.

yay my camaro is "rare" lol. isnt it possible to have a shop chop one up for cheaper than buying one or should i just go find one instead of trying to do that?

Re: 350 engine with t5 trans flywheel issues
If you can find a shop that'll shorten and rebalance it for less than 25 bucks or so, then yeah, I guess that'd be cheaper. I saw a stock, steel shaft in the classifieds a couple of days ago for like $20 plus shipping. A lot of times you can get them for free, just have to pay shipping. For that matter, I've got one just sitting in the corner of the garage collecting dust too. A lot of people, including me, have swapped out the steel one for the lighter factory aluminum one, so it's a piece of cake to find them. You could probably make the money back that you spend on one by selling your original shaft. They're sought after by guys that are putting a TH350 in for racing since the short version of the TH350 requires the longer shaft that you have. It also works for the old Muncies and SuperT10 4 speeds. The reason I say it's "rare" is the longer shaft was only used in 82 and part of 83, that's it. If you have any junkyards nearby, you could probably find several of the 700r4/T5 driveshafts easily.
