700R4 Shifts High
This problem is high rpm shifting in all gears, 2000-4000 rpm.
The first couple of times it was the governor sticking, now the governor is free. So I dropped the pan to see what was up, found a tcc/gov filter in the pan??
I could not see how one of them could get out in one perfect piece, so I dropped the valve body. The TV valve is free and spring not broke.
Both filters where in place?? Extra one must have been drop in tranny during assy.
Other then the TV spring seeming to be short (free movement 3/8" of valve till spring pressure is felt) is there anything else to look for.
Pan is clean except for fines on magnet. Transmission has 6000 miles after two years. It has updates installed, will spin 10 ft in 1st and chirp sec when it works everything is okay, fluid was red not brown.

Re: 700R4 Shifts High
Dana from Pro Built Auto called me back and he suggested checking the inside spool past the TV spring. This spool he said is more then likely sticking and causing the high RPM shift.
His cure is to install a Trans Go update to the TV valves, it will all but eliminate any TV sticking trouble.
I will also replace the main, TCC and Governor filters. This should help.
My thanks to Dana for a very quick call back and some very useful information.

Re: 700R4 Shifts High
An update, the inner spool valve was stuck. It would not move "on in" when being pushed on by the outer spool and spring. The pic shows a wot 3-4 TV collar, the stuck valve is the 1st one to go into the valve body.
The separator plate is .026 thick, the damage is a .060 dimple. Note the circle's, one was caused by a "removed by last rebuilder" spring in the 1-2 Accumulator. Nothing is "Free", this is the cost of 1-2 tire chirp.
He said "this transmission would have snapped your neck on each shift."
The was a 1987 700R4 with a "d" diesel valve body, out of a 84 vette with a spun main engine bearing.

Re: 700R4 Shifts High
Dana at Pro Built Auto did a valve body update to the 88 2nd design.
He installed a Trans go Jr and a 700 2&3 shift kits, plus a new modified separator plate. A new gov, 2-4 servo, .5 boost valve, and filters were also installed.
2 springs are now used on each side of the 1-2 accumulator piston.
The shifts are a lot better and the sticking TV is gone. 1-2 was hard and 2-3 weak, now both the same.
A TV bushing was installed with two holes blocked off for wot 3-4 up-shift.
Thanks Dana
